  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - Dragon Epic and Scarlet Firmware V5.1.14 BETA

Are you sure your menus aren't just set to auto-hide? It's a new feature in v5.
Oh shit, that makes total sense. Many thanks for the tip.

As soon as I'm done with a job this week, I'll try the upgrade again and check it out.
One question. When set to auto-hide, how do you make them appear again? I remember pressing all my camera buttons when this happened, but nothing seemed to do the trick.

Any ways, thanks again, Kaan.

I can assure you that with 40 degrees celsius ambient temperature, the fans will run loudly in adaptive as time goes by, adaptive works very well when it's cooler. By having the standby fans run at up to 100%, you can keep the temperature under control & green T during record. Why do I use manual? Because when shooting sound it can be better. If I am not shooting sound then adaptive is fine.

Edit, of course if I could increase the standby speed to 100% in quiet record, then that would also work .

Works well for short takes - that's a good argument for reinstating manual :)

Still fair to say that any take which is longer than can be accomplished by a 'run-and-cool' strategy will have lowest and most consistent noise in adaptive.

BTW, at 40 degrees ambient, what kind of quiet run time do you usually observe? I can't imagine its long...? 40 is right on the edge of the rated temp range for operation.

I believe the below should do the trick:

If it is still on auto hide the menu button or single tap will bring them back. If you are on 'clean' a double tap should bring back menus to the LCD.

Love this new update! it makes using this camera even more user friendly than it was before. I am consistently reminded how good of a company Red is with updates like these. There is no other company doing this level of customer service and actively paying attention to our needs. Thanks Red team!

Is there a way to get the beta firmware on cameras without red monitors at this point? The DMSC resources file has not been updates just wondering if there is another way for me to set up my preferences to have the UI on my HDMI monitor. Would love to test out this new build, thanks and have a good one!

The HDMI monitor is setup to Overlay mode with auto-hide menus enabled by default now. What that means is that you should be able to bring up the menus on the HDMI by default by pressing the MENU button on the Side Handle or REDmote. This of course is assuming the default HDMI resolution/refresh rates work with your monitor. We will add updated DSMC resource files soon.

Thanks, yeah I have tried the menu button and it's not working for me, I'll wait for the DSMC resources, my monitor worked before unless the resolution/refresh rates have changed since the previous builds.

Thanks Trent!

I could get at least 6 recording minutes with the T staying green.

Did I just get bricked?

Did I just get bricked?

Loaded up the new firmware.. Updated RedMote.. Turned on sleep after 2 min (Wanted to see the effect) about 15min later I came back to camera and it was as HOT AS AN OVEN.. Almost burned my hand! Unplugged and let it cool for 40 min. Now it will not turn on. Press power button.. Red light goes to yellow for 2 seconds, and then nothing.

HELP PLEASE...

Cannot afford a repair right now! What can I do?!

Yes I am freaking out... Have a shoot in a week

No longer losing touch screen abilities when cycling through LCD modes when you have another monitor with menus on. That's fixed!

The overlay settings (for any monitor) should be persistent across boots. What exactly are you setting and what are they reset to?

Hi Trent,

I'm playing with a couple different HDMI bits on the Scarlet...a SmallHD DP6 and a Zacuto EVF. Every time I restart the camera the HDMI just reverts to a clean frame and I then need to go back a reset it to the Red Standard overlay, which is my preferred output. It seems to hold on to the check boxes on the hdmi settings...things like the tools, but it defaults to "clean" every time.

The camera also only seems to hold onto some of the framerate & compression settings on reboot, while it will keep white temp and frame-size. Though thats not something I've tested repeatedly yet.

I am also getting a black, menu-less frame around my RED LCD everytime when I boot up, which is then fixed when I reseat the cable. This happens regardless of hdmi (or anything else) attached to the camera.

Hope that helps.

Please file a support ticket and send in a log file so we can see what is going on. In the meantime I will try to reproduce the problem when I get back into the office.

Obviously, file a tech support ticket.

Save any log file that may be on your SSD in case it has some information in it that may help figure out what happened (note a log file is automatically saved each time you power down the camera - if there is media present). Also note down the camera configuration - which modules were attached, power source, etc.

2K, 75 fps @ 4:1 compression is my new fave setting :ihih: 4:1 @ 4K WS is  Red is crazy, I definitely feel like I have a new camera!!! 24fps @ 4.5K at what ever compression (I can imagine it would only be. It so high) and I wouldn't know what to do

Hi Jamon,

Are you certain you are getting 4:1 @ 4K WS @ 24p? I'm seeing 5:1 as the lowest on my Scarlet.

Thanks

Hey guys be careful.

There's no doubt in my mind now.. BE VERY CAREFUL with the Sleep mode. When I turned it on, the camera kept running but the fans stopped... My camera is most likely fried. It will no longer turn on. I am in contact with RED to see what they will do about this. I have no doubt they will take care of me, but in the meantime, be sure you are very careful of this Beta build.

I am in big trouble due to a shoot I am supposed to have this Wednesday! Oh boy

Jay
