  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I want to tell you...

Now I have really gone mad...

I'm quoting myself,

So maybe that's the concept THE SUM OF POWERS, ,SCARLET, REDONE AND EPIC all using the same ...(fill in the blank)?

So whether you are using the Scarlet, the REDONE or the EPIC you get the power of all three?

(somehow...assuming a common code base, profiles, compression scheme/firmware is an awsome thing to have?)

i.e. even if you buy Scarlet you still "feel" EPIC.

Cheers,

Eric

Eric,

I think it's time for you to get some sleep!

:-))

OK now do you believe me?

JIM was making massive hints repeatedly saying "pay attention" i.e. look closely to what is literally staring you in the face.

11311

I mean this is nothing compared to the weird mathematical “tom foolery” and banter that some coders indulge in…

11311 is much more catchy than "rembember NOV 3rd"...

that makes more sense now...

It’s usually at such points that Jim will chime in with..”You boys having fun with all this…?

But I have to admit a palindromic prime number is more interesting than chasing endlessly around the mulberry bush attempting to eek out some haggered ratio of $:K:fps:sensor size…

Red Herrings and crazy cryptics are fine by me. We have pretty much said the same thing over and over and over again. I think Einstein said…”Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” …

Maybe that’s why I/we are going mad…

Ta.

Eric

Anybody know any good jokes?

Okay, when I get my EPIC, can I get the number 11,311?

:-))

A lot of people are saying Canon acquired Red hence the same date for announcement as in the same products, no back orders, etc... Me on the other hand don't think so i dont see that ever happening... smh

Never going to happen...

Ha ... you people think too small.

THIS... IS... RED!!!!

What Red is going to announce is a helmet with a remote control.

That remote will have one button.

When you press the button, the system will convert the movie in your head to a finished 40K volumetric rendering with full 4D lightfield, with 11.2 surround, including a full score.

It will be called 'Red Sight" the tag line - "Journey beyond imagination ..."

No more messy camera rigs and film crews.

Best of all its only $60000, and its shipping TODAY. Yes, I realize the announcement is November ... but when you place your order on the 3rd, it will be transmitted back in time, and you will already have received it when the event starts.

In fact ... you may have it now. Go on ... look around.

Oh, they'll also release three versions of their laser projector, including one that beams the image directly into your visual cortex.

As is the practice going forward at Red, you have already received your future orders.

What? Did you really think you were sitting at a computer reading RedUser?

Do you think that's air you're breathing?

One thing I will say is that we are working on multiple focus and depth map (think Lytros) but with wicked high resolution... The prototype is incredible. Don't tell Gizmodo or Engadget. :-)

Jim

wowowowwowooww!!! is all i can say, if Scarlet has this feature, this in itself changes everything. Was a bit disappointed when i finally saw the lytro and it's capabilities (the multiple focus and depth map feature aside)
I have a kidney going spare if RED would like to swap for a Scarlet when they hit the shelves :)

In reality, we must keep in mind what we "know". If Scarlet comes to market sub $10k (for a standard shooting setup) there's nothing that even comes close to offering the features that have been previously discussed via Red Ted's teasers and discussion here on RedUser. It's fun to speculate on specifications, but it's also exciting to look at what is already reality.

If there is a S35 version/option/brain (or even larger) that's just extra icing on the cake. Sony, Canon, JVC, and Panasonic should be extremely concerned either way. Look at the technology Red has focused on developing. High resolution, high speed, and high dynamic range. Nobody has yet to come close at any of the current lineup's price points. Those "3 H's" are what really separate Red from the pack. Aside from that, the raw technology, compact form factor and modular design. All pluses from a company paying attention to the shooter's desires, lusts, and wants.

Beyond Scarlet, if the new Red Projector presents an affordable way for theaters to upgrade their projectors up to 4k, Red will have potentially solved one of the major issues facing theater owners. This is nothing short of a revolutionary concept.

Red is clearly thinking bigger. Developing products utilizing state of the art technology and not necessarily going the safe route.

They are focusing on changing the way motion pictures and created, captured, and viewed. That vision is what excites me the most.

haha, more like all the engineers left canon so that they could work on cool stuff instead...

Also you can extract high detaild 3D models/ point clouds from the kinetix. And the Kinetix is a toy with way low resolution and cost 100USD in the game shop. I think if RED picks up this thread then it will not be toy resolution and the result will be better.

That, plus you can also extract the exact camera position and lens info from the depth data - no more 3D tracking (which is a huge improvement). And if your shot has enough parallax (camera moves), or especially if you shoot multiple angles that show what's behind your foreground items in the other cameras, you should even be able to create a 3D version of the scene with a possibility to reprogram camera motion (think of Blade Runner, manipulating image to see behind objects).

This could be very very big.

1. Why would Peter Jackson / James Cameron buy so many EPICS

2. Now think matrix bullet time except not freeze but live fly through a scene. With that many epics and a bit of back yard tech…. lol Why not ?

there is no way scarlet will have this. It would be awesome, but stay realistic, he mentioned a prototype, and said its something they are working on aside from the Nov 3rd releases. If it takes another year or two to release that, and its a $40,000 brain, it will still be the most ridiculous advancement in filmmaking equipment this century.

Nothing to discuss here. You're just being being disrespectful:-)
Your behavior has nothing to do with the subject of this thread...

Good reply Jake.. your a better man than me. I learnt something from you today.

thanks. :)

I don't think the "well over board" Da Vinci code-esque discussion adds anything to this forum.

I also wish people would stop pushing the "around 6k" Scarlet to 10k.

You don't need to cut RED the slack. If that is what they have to do, then that is what they have to do. Then they have two cameras in the high budget segment.

I think many are still hoping that they open the door to a new market. And Jim's statements suggests it's still a possibility.

Are you linking your resolution equation to my price reference?

I did not mean for that to happen.

EDIT: having looked it up, I do concur that 1+1+3+1+1 indeed equals 7

Nope.

Time travel
holography
display by direct brain stimulation.

... and one more thing related to light fields.

Yep that's it.

Clearly however I had the price wrong. It will be $11311 for everything.

I got it right first!

To the guy who asked what these posts add ... mostly humor I hope. Since I think my "inside information" is just as good as all the other posters here, I think its a nice parody bit too.

You guys want useless conjecture? I can give you uselesser conjecture!
