Phil, what do you use for the optical flat in terms of screw-in? Did you use screw-in or larger for the Forged 8k shoot to protect the lenses? That is all I am thinking about. I did send mail to Formatt, but have not heard back, about making a 95mm optical flat / UV filter.

I also updated my list of filters in my first post. I assume that you will go through all of them again before you send the final info off to Formatt.

I know you want those Soft Edge Grads in Screw In, but you actually want them in a rectangular format so you can actually position the grad :)

I'll try to stay on top of things as much as humanly possible between shooting, bidding, and pitching which is what's going on in my bizarre life this month. Been shooting booze, tacos, and cars lately, which doesn't keep me so attentive though :)

Everything I used on Forged was 4x5.65" in BT's Misfit Atom, which clamps onto anything that you have the appropriate ring for. On that shoot I had the 80mm ring in most of the time for the crazy variety of glass I was using.

I use screw-ins when I absolutely need the lightest weight and tiniest option. I personally prefer 4x5.65" because they are easier to swap, clean, and deal with during any shooting day. 92% of my shooting is on 4x5.65" is basically what I'm saying. You'll have less chance at vignetting on ultra wides with the 4x5.65" btw than the screw-ins on 8K. Just putting that out there too :)

Spoke with Formatt today. Still awaiting "correct prices", but should have those at some point this evening I imagine. There's been some sort of chaos involving GBP to USD conversions that is getting sussed out.

Thanks for putting this together Phil!

Could you ask if there's any chance of getting the discount off their Filter Kit options? If so, definitely put me down for all three of the 4x5.65" ND kits:

the 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 kit
the 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 kit
the 2.1, 2.4, 2.7, 3.0 kit

Cheers,

Mark

I'll take:

1X of .3, .6, .9 in 82mm Firecrest ND SuperSlim Screw-In

1X of Circular Polarizer in 82mm Screw-In

Thx Phil

I'll ask later today Mark, but I'm pretty sure these kits are identical to the singles in price and in pouches.

Hi Phil,

I'm in for 77mm .3, ,9, and 1.5 ND.

Thanks so much!

Word of warning to possible "kit" buyers. The kits ship with a weird 3-pouch short-end-hinge concertina-style filter holder which need to be flopped open (to about 3-ft long!) to access any filters. Basically useless in the real world. I'm going to see if Formatt will send me a bunch of single pouches for the two kits I bought a few months ago.

If the price is more or less the same, I'd strongly suggest buying as singles so each filter has its own individual pouch.

The filters themselves are fabulous!

Alrighty, updated the list real quick and added "official pricing" for 95mm-127mm threaded stuff for y'all. Nearly to 30 participants, which is pretty darn good.

Phil,

I see you updated the other filters price but what about this?

As of today the price on Formatt's site and even B&H is:

phfx_FGB_priceThing.jpg

There was some wild GBP to USD conversion error somewhere somehow that was rectified this week apparently.

Any update if the screw in 77/82mm would be the same as currently listed on the first page? They are quite a bit less on B&H, or is the msrp for this group buy still in the works? Thanks for putting this on Phil.

Phil, FYI, I added a couple 95mm UV370 firecrest to my list as well. Formatt told me that have them and simply have not added to the site yet. No worries if this and the grads can't be done through the GB. I can always order them separately.

BTW, do you have an opinion of UV, 370 and 400? James, at Formatt, suggested the 370.

I'll investigate that, but at the end of the day it will be a better deal.

I'll ask about them Stacey. I would recommend the UV 370 unless you are shooting from Everest all day :) If you are just hoping for general protection, I'd go with a clear rather than a UV for everyday shooting.
