  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy - Formatt-Hitech Firecrest ND Filters

Is anyone else encountering significant inconsistencies in the supposed density of their Firecrest NDs?

I bought the complete set 0.3-3.0, but the majority of mine are yielding significantly darker results than stopping the lens down an equivalent amount. I need to test it properly to see what each filter is actually yielding in terms of effective density, but I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this same thing?

I light and expose using my meter, so unreliably labelled filters are a serious issue for me.

Dear Firecrest Group Buy Members,

Hot Rod has some overstock filters from the Group Buy.

We will be blowing them out over the next few weeks starting today. I've requested the exact list of what is available, but I'm told the majority is certain densities of 4x5.65 Firecrest IRND (both solid and grads.)

We are continuing to honor the GB price for RedUsers, but this is only for the items that we have on hand (no special orders) and once the last of the overstock filters are gone, prices will return to normal. Just figured I'd make the offer to the community here before I receive the list of what's available in case someone would like to put early dibs on anything that's available.

You need only send me a PM or reach out to our office directly and say that you heard about the overstock from the Group Buy on RedUser. email (at) hotrodcameras dot com, or call (323)230-3589 office.

All the best,

I.

Here's the OVERSTOCK Formatt filter list.

For some of these we have only 1x, several are 3-5 and on a couple we have many, many, overstock filters. We're handling this on a strictly first come, first serve basis. When they are gone, they are gone, and regular Formatt pricing will resume.

Email us at email@hotrodcameras.com or call (323)230-3589. Be sure to mention that you want "RedUser Group Buy Pricing" otherwise you may be quoted without the group buy pricing.

ND 2 Filter Grad Set

I know a few of you were waiting for some specialty filters, and I just wanted to mention that I got mine in today after quite a bit of waiting !

I have one question about the Grad ND filters:
What Grad ND filter intensity do you use the most (for sky)? And is it the hard edge or soft edge filter?

I can only afford one filter :(

ND 0.9 Soft Edge Horizontal 4x5.65 for me. Actually, my most commonly used grad filter for skies is a Schneider Sapphire Blue 2 Soft Edge, since I mostly want to boost saturation or add blue to white skies. But ND grads are more versatile for rendering different types of skies. If your matte box also accepts 5x5 or 5.65x5.65 square filters, then you can avoid the choice between Horizontal and Vertical grads.

My preference is 0.6 soft edge 4x5.6"
Curious to hear what the consensus is, if there is one.

In the last years I always had to decide if I expose for the ground or for the sky (in very wide shots)... And was always thinking like "Now I need a Grad ND".
So now with the Black Friday Deal - I want to get one.

Is it really necessary to buy the firecrest soft grad - or is it OK to go for the "normal" soft grad filter? (since they are half the price)
