  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

I have the controller in hand!
I'm going to try to borrow an Epic or Phantom to see where this thing maxes out.

Very exciting!

Just as excited here. Everything looks like it's coming together! =]

Awesome news Brandon!

Great to hear Brandon! I'm sure you're more excited than any of us to see all your hard work pay off. Congrats.

It's such a massive relief. This controller really is beautiful. I must have said, "it's beautiful" half a dozen times as I was testing it.

The controller does look very nice Brandon. Especially for how many of us will be using these strips.

Great to hear. My opinion is that if it works up to 150 and with a small amount of tweaks it can be further, I would vote to NOT take it.
My friend ran a pretty large project and he kept reiterating over and over on Kickstarter. It finally shipped but 1 year later.

Great job Brandon though!

Thank you again for your unwavering diligence to bring this to fruition. Especially in the midst of personal health issues. I'm very excited about these controllers and can't wait to implement them into my kit. Out of curiosity, how soon are we looking at getting these in our hands? I have some projects in the pipeline this month that I'd like to incorporate these lights into. If they are going to be an option, I'll be shittin smiles. Again, appreciate the hard work.

Looks great Brandon.

Now sign the fkr off and leave V.2.0 for the next round before anyone else bails out, lol :biggrin5:

But seriously, awesome achievement.

Just a question too about providing a phone-number for early shipment of the spools separate from the controllers - was my phone-number included on the Paypal receipts for the spools and controllers payments I made (like your number was on the invoice), or do I still need to send it to you in an e-mail?

Thanks everyone! It's pretty clear to me now why there is nothing else on the market that does all of this. It's really hard to make! There are no more tweaks for high frame rates or, well, anything. The only change being made is they are upgrading a component to help keep the heat down when under a heavy load. They are making this last change this week and then torture testing it. That means 24 hours under a full 40A load while logging vitals. Once this is done I'll be able to give an accurate shipping target dates. There's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's big and bright (and flicker free... ha). We're almost there!

PayPal doesn't give me your number, so you need to email it to me. It's required for shipping.

Since it's already getting buried:

Just did some quick tests and it's 100% flicker free up to AT LEAST 150 FPS!

I'm pretty damn sure it will do 200 or even 250FPS flicker free, but I have no way to test that right now. My Scarlet maxes out at 150FPS.

Remember our spec was 120FPS, so this greatly exceeds spec!

You can adjust your shutter speed to see how high it will go flicker free. If it's flicker free at 1/2000th of a second, it's flicker free at 1000fps 180 degree shutter.

I did that, and let's just say... Things look great :) I'm still going to test on an Epic first before I start posting specific numbers. I'll upload video clips of the tests.

Actually, this is too much fun to keep quiet about...

6K at 1/1000th shutter (simulated 500fps) scaled to 1080p:

6k at 1/1000th (simulated 500fps) 1:1:

(I adjusted the iris for the 1:1 shot to make the "flicker" MORE visible)

There is a slight flicker at (simulated) 500fps that I can only see at 1:1.

At (simulated) 250fps, I see no flicker at all.

So, somewhere between 250fps and 500fps we get a little bit of a flicker. I'm willing to bet you could scale 6k at 500fps to 1080p and not see the flicker at all. It's not really a "flicker", but rather tiny horizontal lines.

Disclaimer: This is simulated and it could get a whole lot more noticeable when playing back at 500fps. I'll view this on a 60" TV later to pixel peep. And obviously, these are pictures of my RED HD touch monitor.

Anyone with a big 4K TV want to help pixel peep once I get some footage uploaded?

Once I can shoot some tests at 250-500fps, I will upload footage. This is all preliminary.

What is 100% clear though is we blew our target spec out of the water!

If possible, maybe test with other cameras as well. I just used an a7s for a couple of lowlight inserts lit only by projectors and the banding and flicker was MUCH worse at the same settings than on the Red. Either way, thanks for these tests!

Ha, I knew something made me ask.. Your keeping secrets Brandon, i need 10 rolls of those, the color reproduction from those look perfect.

I agree and the color is identical to what everyone is getting in this group buy :)

It's just a different density of LED chips with less overall light output.

I'm frequently experimenting with stuff like this.
