  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

Hey Brandon, did those obsessive guys send you a final version yet ? can't wait for your video review on these bad boys !
Aloha
A

Yeah, they are sending me the unit they have now, which works well under a normal load, but they don't like the temp readings they are getting when it's under a full 40A load. Keep in mind this is a massive load (5x LG's dimmer). It's 4 full 5m (16ft+) single color rolls or 2 full 5m rolls of hybrid/variable strips. It's a massive amount of light. I will test the controller to verify it's flicker free at high frame rates as they update one component to make the temp lower. I'll test it out immediately when I get it and post videos.

Hello,
Long time Red owner/operator here. I'm interested in purchasing a spool of each LED strip on this group buy (hybrid, daylight, tungsten). I would like to acquire a spool from the original lot, take the place of a an existing order, or buy from an existing owner. Please contact me asap.

Also, is there anyone on this group buy who has average color temperature readings on these strips? I use lite gear and there can be quite a variation on CRI / color temperature between products/ batches (especially X2 and X3 daylight)

Thank You.

-Joel

The color temp and CRI are very consistent. I have lab reports I can sent you. The manufacturer is required to meet the specification I gave them.

Here are CRI readings I took myself (Daylight | Tungsten):

Here are some recent comments people have shared:

I received my spools a few weeks ago...they are really bright and color accurate. I ended up soldering 4 short strips together and sticking them to a piece of silver lame to light the inside of a car for a daytime shoot and ran them off of a vmount. They are awesome.

I am loving mine. I want more. These puke out huge amounts of light when driven by around 15v from an AB battery. I am using 12v power supplies that I got from a different vendor, and I have 15v supplies for some of my other LEDs. Color temp is spot on without CC gells.

I put mine on coro-plast with velcro on the back. They are less than half an inch thick and mad bright.

Nick

I sent you a PM with my email, Joel.

Hi Brandon,
I sent you a PM almost 2 months ago if its not too late to send in my money but never got any reply, so I assumed it was too late that my spot would have been taken up but it seems otherwise from the conversations I read above. Just to reconfirm, can I still send in my money? Got an invoice already from you.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure I've written you a few times, Abiodun. I'll PM you now.

Terrific CRI reads! Really looking forward to getting these!

I'm getting a database put together to manage all this. With all the changes you guys keep asking for, it's getting really cumbersome to manage in Excel.

Brandon, haven't heard back from you... Do you have an ETA on my order? Thanks!

I see your PM asking if you, "fell through the cracks". You definitely didn't, but you never said you want early delivery of your lights before the controllers are ready. If you do, I'll get you in the queue. Let me know.

Excited to see what you do with them!

Tracking number received! The controller sample had been sent. I should have it on Monday or Tuesday.

I'm just trying to get a shipping ETA on my order Brandon. Weeks have turned into months. I know of all of your troubles. I have a shoot in October that I'd like to use these one. Thanks again!

Unfortunately i have to jump. Sorry Brandon, not your fault, i really appreciate all your work, especially considering how you managed to keep this up with all the difficulties and changes that have come up.

If anyone is willing to take my spot/order, just send a PM.

My package:
5 variable strips lights, 2 controllers, 5 connector kits, 1 power kit

Malik - PM Sent.

For Brandon - is there any particular difficulties with switching ownership of an order? I assume the buyer would pay Malik directly?

Thanks.

Hi Brandon,

I found this thread through a Google Search. I am not an RED camera user but I do need some bright high CRI LED light strips. I do not need variable. I am looking for some of each tungsten and daylight rolls. I do not need controllers or converters - this is for an installation already running on high amp-hour capacity solar/battery 12v.

With this thread at 1750 posts I am having trouble figuring out where this bulk order stands...

  • Are there any spots left? Most likely for 2 rolls tungsten, 2 rolls daylight depending on price.
  • If not, how much of a waiting list is there?
  • What is the current/expected price per 5M roll?
  • What is the amp/metre draw?
  • Do you have a per metre lumen rating at 12v?
  • They may run up as high as 15v when batteries are being charged at full equalization rate. From other posts it seems as if 15v is OK - no burn out, no overheating. Is this correct? Or will I need voltage limiters?
  • Any other information I should know?

Thank you,
- Timothy

PS: I hope your health problems are better.

It's no problem. When you guys work it out, email me with all parties CCd and I'll update my records.

I'll be back at my computer tomorrow to reply to everyone else. On my mobile now.

And in case you you guys missed my previous post, I have an updated controller on the way to me. Tracking number received. Stay tuned.

I have the controller in hand!

Just did some quick tests and it's 100% flicker free up to AT LEAST 150 FPS!

I'm pretty damn sure it will do 200 or even 250FPS flicker free, but I have no way to test that right now. My Scarlet maxes out at 150FPS.

Remember our spec was 120FPS, so this greatly exceeds spec!

I'm going to try to borrow an Epic or Phantom to see where this thing maxes out.

Very exciting!

I'm testing on an Epic this week! Hopefully tomorrow.

One other thing about the controller... The fades have always been really smooth, but there was a slight delay in the previous version. Not really a problem except in a rare situation where you might need to perfectly time a light adjustment during a shot, BUT now there is no delay at all. Everything is just as smooth and adjustments are instantaneous!

Oh, man! It's happening! I can't wait to get my hands on these pups!

How does the mix between the two colors work?

Thanks!

Stephen
