  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Group Buy: Budget CRI 95 LED Strip Lights

I just got word that our production run of LED strip lights will be finished by Saturday the 31st.

If you still have not paid yet, please take care of it this weekend or email me and let me know when it will be. I don't want to have any more delays from this.

I should have news about the controllers tomorrow. As soon as I do, I'll get the document with all the details out to everyone. It will include all the options for the 'tubes'.

Ok, so I've been quite busy the last few days working on the specification for an entirely custom controller. I decided it would be worth seeing how much it would cost vs. them modifying their existing product.

  • I decided to add physical knobs onto the device itself. If you want wireless, flip a switch and run it off your iOS device. If you don't want wireless for a setup, then turn it off, and use the built in knobs. We can also expand on this and get a wireless knob controller device made later if enough people want them.
  • Hard metal casing instead of plastic. It has to be set ready.
  • Built in WiFi option (instead of a separate unit).
  • Absolutely smooth dimming and color temp changes. It will not go in steps like cheap controllers.
  • Oh, and you guys will love this: Flicker free up to at least 120fps.
  • There are also a few other surprises I'm not posting yet...

Here's the design their artist came up with:

(It's not final yet.)

This is all for an 8A version and the price is on target... On Monday I'll know pricing for a 10A version.

There is nothing on the market that can do all this. It's literally everything I want in a controller for about 1/10th the price it would cost to piece together all the gear you would need to have all this power and functionality. All in one device that you can hold in your hand.

They have been building this stuff for 8 years, so the guts are nothing new. They can get a unit in my hand to test and sign off on in 20 days.

Let me know what you think!

great. I don't think I caught it but is there an rough estimate of the price?

essentially it would be the price we paid for the strips/accessories and additional for this upgrade?

It will be what you paid for the budget controller plus the upgrade fee. It looks like it will be LESS than the price of the 'red pill' upgrade plus remote/wifi. The benefit being the added functionality, that it's all in one unit and that it's built like a tank and to spec (functionality, custom PCB, case mold, etc.). In total we are talking less than half the price of a RED Touch Lemo cable. It's a bargain. Once I get the 10A pricing I'll know exactly. I'm hoping that it isn't much more. Then there would be no compromises.

If you mean under $40 upgrade then that is a GREAT deal.

Is the shipping date coming with the next update or is that something you could divulge/estimate now? ;p

~$50 plus or minus $10. I'll know the exact price Sunday night/Monday morning. It's an amazing opportunity and only possible because of the number of units that have been ordered.

I posted yesterday that our LEDs will be done the 29th. That means the first week of February our LEDs and kits can start going out.

For clarification that doesn't include the new controllers?
sorry for any repeats

If we go with this custom controller they can get me a unit to test in 20 days. Once I sign off on it, then they start manufacturing them and that will take 2-3 weeks. Basically, we are looking at a 2-3 week delay if we go for these units. Seems like a no-brainer to me. The price is about the same or maybe even less. I will confirm everything on Sunday night/Monday when I know about the 10A version.

I know you shouldn't love anything that can't love you back, but this is lovely. Perhaps it's just lust... sexy little thing that. Seriously, this deal is way more than I was expecting. To be able to remotely control all your lights and for way under a grand is simple amazing.

This is great! The only one suggestion I have is to maybe have something more Kelvin related in the lettering of the color knob instead of "CW" and "WW".

Yep - maybe outer markings to quickly dial in the required kelvin (clockface style).

That controller looks amazing!

Awesome Brandon!

anyone owns both this one and literibbon ?

I don't think anyone has this dimmer/controller yet. You can tell that it's a photoshopped picture showing. The reflection in the picture is of a DMX controller. I'm sure it's just to show you the plans what they're trying to make.

But it looks good. I like the route this controller is going. as long as its under 150$ it'll be a good buy.
