And that's all of possible ways you can use LED strips, gee come on folks we can do better!!!

David

great
thanks Brandon.
Do you know when you'd be getting a price on the controllers?

They will be under $50. I'm still hammering out the custom specs with the manufacturer. First I asked them to modify it for high frame rates and they confirmed they can. Now we are negotiating the amp rating. Once the specs are nailed down, I'll have an exact price. It's looking really good. Everything is!

Is it possible to add some spools at the last moment if we're already in the list?

FWIW, and just as a heads-up, my order says 5 daylight but I'll probably switch to some combination of daylight and variable with controller(s) once I see the final offer. A

As I understand it, you can daisy change the strips? And, in the case of the variable, you can control several daisy changed strips with a single controller? (Just checking.)

Dimmer/Controller News

I talked to a company today with an existing product they can modify to work for film/video and do a special run of for us. The minimum quantity will be at least 50 of each type (fixed, variable). That shouldn't be a problem considering our numbers. They showed me a video of it working and there was absolutely no flicker.

I'm waiting for a reply about how quick they can get me a sample to test. The price should come in under my target price of $50. There are a few other options I'm working on, but this is the most promising lead for a quick quality controller/dimmer on a budget.

This is going to be key.

I have put together a few of these lights, and without the proper dimmer you get flicker recorded.

Yeah, you're right. I need to update that text. We have a budget dimmer now that is flicker free. One for the variable strips that also adjusts the color temp and one for the fixed color temp strips. They will be under $50. I'm working out the final specs now with the manufacturer.

There will be limits as to how many strips you can "daisy chain". Those are the final technical details I'm working out now with the manufacturer of the controllers. Once the Group Buy I will verify how many of each type everyone wants. Right now the most important thing is the total number.

We have over 100 people participating in this Group Buy and 319 spools so far!

We have 2 days to get 181 more spools to maximize our discount!

We have budget flicker free controllers/dimmers being made specifically for this Group Buy. They will be under $50 each!

You won't find a better deal on top quality CRI 95 LED strip lights anywhere.

When you join the Group Buy be sure to PM me your email! If you have already joined and haven't sent me your email yet, please do so now. Thanks!

Are they flicker free at any shutter/framerate, or are there limits?

And does dimming down from 100% affect those limits?

I guess the limit on daisy chaining with be total current draw that the power supply/controller and power cables can supply, and also heat management. Most high output, high CRI LEDs are adversely affected if they can't dissipate heat fast enough, which would be an issue in an enclosure.

Eric, flicker is not a problem at 100%. Dimming below that is what can cause video to flicker (without a proper dimmer). If you start playing with weird shutter angles things could get unpredictable, but that's not only true about LEDs. The high end dimmers can handle up to a theoretical 480fps flicker free, but even they say you must test before shooting over 24/25fps. I don't expect there to be any issues with typical high speed frame rates. Please remember though that this controller is a $50 budget solution that will be all most of us will need and it will save us a fortune.

Wait how did I miss this thread ?...

Well I need to read this long thread in detail before I tell you exactly what I'd want, but I'm pretty sure you can already add me to the list ;)
