  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

we couldn't... so there was no point of even trying.

funny nobody commented on the red lens yet :)

Hey Jarred, you were pretty close to the beast, so why don't you start the commenting ?:)

What us poor jerks could say other than "wish it would start shipping my way":(

Pixelchef what software did you do this in ?

If you wanted to spend enough time & money on it, I think you could maintain focus (at least in theory- not sure how practical this is.) Assuming the camera is a fixed distance "d" from the track, AND you can pan the camera to keep the car in the frame, AND the car stays on the track, you can calculate the required focus distance "l" just by knowing distance "d" and the camera pointing angle "theta". So you use an encoder measuring the camera pan angle, a microcontroller to do the math, and a servo system to pull focus.

If it is difficult to pan with the car by hand, maybe that part could be automated as well, but you'd have to make some assumptions about car performance, or have other real-time measurements. Just a thought.

I, for one - think that lense looks impressing! I'm still more impressed with the shot we've seen from it, and I wonder if I did the right thing opting for the zoom...

there is a little thing your not taking into consideration jbeale.. and thats the fact that we were monitoring 4k uncompressed footage full resolution downscaled at 3 frames per second..

I knew all those wires were doing something spectacular !!! Ooooohhhh Yessss

Look at that baby go ------------------------------->

Ok, I was not aware of that! If you've got a fixed focal length lens, maybe you could mount a separate spotting scope on top? (true optical viewfinder :-) If you're at a safe distance, the parallax should not be an issue. In the future when you do have a real-time live viewscreen, I assume you could keep a pan on track, for at least some distance.

Mac only, but worth getting a Mac just for this app, it's such a blast!

Elcurado - I love your style, man. You have such a mastery of nuance.

Thanks for your words, chef...
And for the link!

Elcurado.

is it me? or does Frankie look at lot like an Eldebrock intake manifold? Not that that's a bad thing.
