  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I have a Sachtler Horizon plus head waiting for the Red body. It´s a great head, too smal for a 35mm film camera but I think it´s gonna be OK for the Red One.
 
ouch! it hurts to see such a long and heavy lens to be mounted without support rods..sorry i should keep my mouth shut
 
At least you guys are "down" enough to call them rods--haven't quite figured out where the majority of folks on video boards got the idea to call them "rails" but it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a herd mentality to randomly rename tried-and-true terminology.

Didn't you notice every thing here is red. oops I mean RED....

I think the RED camera is a very big digital SLR with a hard drive on back thus when mounting a large lens... as in still photography the lens is mounted on the head and the camera hangs off the back...

Their design idea seems to be that everything including the camera body will hang on the rods....thus rails???

This is the first camera that I have felt is styled right to put on the Alien...
 
Hi TJ--

It's not so much a RED or RED-hopeful-user thing--I see "rails" used a lot referring to 15mm rods for DV cameras and matteboxes, as well as those equipped with various 35mm adaptors etc. I just haven't figured out where it started, is all.

by the way, aren't we supposed to "forget" the name "Alien" in lieu of "AR"...?
 
most likely because the camera rides between upper and lower rods.. hence, riding in rails. Rods or Rails or Rails or Rods... everyone knows what everyone is talking about.
