  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

foolcontrol for iPhone...

Also, and pardon my ignorance, does the Hotlink rely on the fact that the Iphone can generate a Wifi signal? What if I am in a location deep somewhere where I don't have access to Wifi? Does the RedLink provide a different signal, or is it all dependent on the fact that all components receive external Wifi? I'm sure I'm saying something dumb here...

If I'm correct, it works pretty much like the GoPro wifi (and the Helix app). The Hotlink creates a signal via wifi and phone picks up so it does not depend whether you have external wifi signal. In fact, your phone may be disconnected from other wifi signal in order to work with the device (unless you use cellular data connection).

You need the redlink dev kit or the hotlink for that. These work like a standard wifi router, creating a wifi signal and hardwiring the camera to it so that the camera itself becomes something like a hotspot. Just as GT said. similar to a GoPro which also creates its own wifi signal.
Then you connect your phone to it. Not the other way round

For once I have to accept something good has come out of the Selfie mania :)

Looking for an onboard Gimbal solution I found this, do you think it could work?

I bought this one last year because it uses screws for adjusting size and maintaining grip instead of springs:

Mikael,

I will be purchasing FoolControl the day my weapon arrives. I do have one question or request. Can FoolControl remember all the camera settings including Project, look, key button allocation, audio etc? Could I take Foolcontrol and clone all my camera settings to a second camera? This would be awesome for B cameras or replacement cameras or after a firmware update. Thankyou

Hi Tom

Project settings, look settings ... : YES
Audio : possible to add on my end but not yet implemented
Key Button mapping : that's one thing that is not YET in the RCP protocol so I cannot save / send KEY MAPPING as of today. Once RED adds it in the RCP SDK you should be able to do it from foolcontrol.

Right now you can quickly save your project / look / recording settings and store them in your iPhone for recall at any time.

Thanks :-)

Has anyone tried to expand the range of the Hotlink/Foolcontrol IOS combination with for example this router: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ..._ac87u_ac2400_dual_band_wireless_gigabit.html
AC/DC -adapter specs say 19V 2.3A output and power consumption with just two devices connected should be below 15W. What do you guys think, could this be a good solution for better range in the field if battery powered? I mean I'd just stick the router on a stand somewhere in middle of the scene.

I have not tested this particular router but heard it is a good / strong one. Cannot comment on battery powered use either but make sure you get one with GIG-Ethernet as it can be useful for wired camera control too (underwater, linked cameras etc...)
Maybe Mark from OFFHOLLYWOOD can chime in as he may have tested this specific router...

Using a router on set between the camera and OS X or iOS devices is indeed a very good idea... Better range, easier to switch between camera(s) if you are using several of them and easy to reconnect to if you change battery on camera (vs using Ad hoc mode)

yes.

GIG-E will soon be very usefool for remote operation : download clips, update firmware (while preserving settings !) ...

RCP and FW dev team at RED are doing a truly remarkable work allowing such an advanced external camera control system.
An lesser known domain where RED is pushing digital cameras tech leaps and bounds with an unstoppable force.

That would open some pretty neat workflow oprtunities for anyone tapping into those areas...

I really want to use Foolcontrol on my Scarlet Dragon (DSMC 1)
What is my best option for getting wifi to the camera? I use a V-mount on the back of the camera so RedLink is not possible I guess...
