  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FOOLCONTROL for Iphone @ IBC

Mikael that might be awesome for on set filming and huge help to post side of project.also for camera reports. And giving permissions to ipad owners he can only add metadata not change cam settings etc.

At the moment the OS X app has a 'LOCK' feature that allow to select and lock individual parameters in the app to avoid changing something by mistake...
Will be adding something similar for iOS but won't be in the initial release.

There is no way to restrict it at camera level and sadly REDLink bridge or serial/HOTLink only allows 1 single connection (whereas you can connect multiple device if the camera is using the GIG-E cable into a router).
That's why I opted for a foolcontrol with everything on iOS instead of my initial idea of having different apps for director/dop/ac/script etc

Duh, Apple phones are the best.

Also, wide ranging cross-platform support is the best way to engage potential market base.

Sort of like Quicktime also works on Windows computers (well, you can't export prores without a ton of workarounds... but yeah...)

Hi Mikael,

congratulations on your App, it looks really amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
However I currently use a woodncamera v-mount directly on the back of my camera...

any solutions / workarounds to use a Redlink other than directly on the back of the camera? I'm often shooting on location, so any other setup that would require a router etc. is not an option.

Marc, OffHollywood has Hotlink. Used it with Foolcontrol 2 days ago. As my 9 year old son says.. "Easy peezy, lemon squeezy" Mounted the Hotlink on top of our Wooden leather side handle.. Takes about 3 min to get the whole system up and running.

It was fun to watch Ivan's mind melt when he experienced FOOLCONTROL iOS & HOTLINK for the first time :)

:-)
My son also is 9, so is Mark's elder I think... this generation probably will be controlling everything thru a phone, a watch or some other wearable device :-)

Glad you liked the system.

So ... you gotta wrap your heads around this little fun fact ....

FOOLCONTROL iOS is THE VERY FIRST iOS APP that Mikael has ever coded. His FIRST iOS app EVER.

Most people make .... "HELLO WORLD" first.

I've only met one other person in my entire life that has the special "magic" that this guy has in terms of rapid, insane coding and UI design - and that is Vlado Struhar - who created QTAKE and changed video assist forever.

Tomorrow - I'm gonna sit Vlado & Mikael down together - and shit's gonna get crazy.

This party is just getting started -

Staggered about this fact....

Gotta thanks Jarred for challenging my coding skills :-)
And my wife and kids for letting me spends hours with my computer and camera during summer holidays !

Giles Harvey (luttrellproductions.tv) on foolcontrol :

Dragon smashing it! Now off with the same setup to cover Berlin marathon.
I will be on the back of a motor bike with movi/fool control tomorrow.
This week has been massive for this whole set up and your app has been faultless.
I have my phone on the cross bar allowing a focus pull with my thumb.
I LOVE IT! It's been really stable and a joy to use.
