  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FOOLCONTROL for Iphone @ IBC

Any shipping updates for those of us that beat the clock and signed up for Hotlink? Just curious. I didn't get a tracking number or any other way to check order status, or shipping details.

Hey Eryc -

I'll keep folks updated in the thread about HOTLINK that Jarred started in RECON - and I will also get an email list going to send updates to folks that ordered - just got back last night from IBC - but all is well and so far, everything is on track.

HOTLink will ship the week of october 6 according to Mark's plan.
And according to my plans foolcontrol iOS app should be on App Store that same week (with a small unknown variable to deal with aka Apple validation delay)

Thanks for the response, Mikael -- on a product that isn't even yours. Ha. Sorry, I later realized I posted to the incorrect thread. But I appreciate the update on FOOLCONTROL, nonetheless. Your app and HOTLINK are complementary goods in the purest sense, and I'm all over it the moment you pull the trigger. The ability to easily, and remotely, access the camera while being mounted to a UAV is going to help immensely.

Thanks, Mark. Keep up the good work, and thank you for the quick response -- on the incorrect thread. :) Glad to hear your IBC trip was a success, and you are pleased with the progress. Like others, I'm excited for the increased functionality. Bring it on, sir.

Vibration free camera and focus control on a 1200 mm in RED booth at Photokina.

This looks really cool and useful. I'm just a little worried about how much it's going to end up costing, if you have to buy the app separately for every user. I hope there will be some kind of option to buy a camera-specific license that can be on multiple users' phones. I don't know if that's possible with the app store, though.

Not possible via App Store to lock to a single camera... but if you buy the app with your iTunes account you can actually install on all your linked iDevices... That's the way App Store works and they also do take 30-40% off the selling price. Oh well...

Thanks for opening up the protocol Jarred.

I'd like to see some videos on the follow focus feature with some BTS and a list of compatible lenses if possible please?

Will work on doing some videos after the tradeshows...

Compatible lenses is whatever the RED can control in AF mode.

Tested with several Nikons and Canons so far and no specific issues using any of those with foolcontrol. We tried a 1200mm Canon monster yesterday at Photokina and worked very nicely... Been able to control lens and camera wirelessly is indeed needed with such lens to avoid vibrations.

Hi Mikael, it was great meeting you at IBC - here is my mock up to mount the Foolcontrol on my Letus Helix- can't wait for the real thing!

Iphone 1/4-20 to Helix right handle with Foolcontrol, and Hotlink on Dragon- right thumb control of Red and ef lenses, left handle has Helix thumb controller.

Yeah, I can install it on all of my devices. But I'm in a positition where there's a single Epic with multiple users (all with their own iDevices and their own Apple accounts), so for us the best choice would be a license locked to the camera instead of to the Apple account. But I can understand that it's a limitation of the app store and there isn't much you can do about it.

Maybe the workaround will be to get an iPod touch for the sole purpose of registering a new Apple account and buying the app for that and keeping it with the Epic.

Yup that's the best solution for you and me :-)

I'm at cinec today and tomorrow... Busy booth, lots of people trying and loving the app... Posted some photos on facebook but will try to post more later on reduser and do more videos demos when I can.

rather than remote focusing i would like to use this app as a metadata editing. Can i give the ipad to AD assistant and let he/she make circle takes, edit location info etc. on each clips or entire card?
like creating user preset so he can change only metadata not to touch camera settings?

Yes you can create / save / export presets for looks and camera settings easily and enter metadata from the OS X and iOS apps

The only limitation is that the camera cannot modify a R3D or create a RMD file so any metadata info for director/production/scene/take etc has to be entered before you start recording.

Hi Mikael, talk with you at the IBC and bought the Wifi set by Offhollywood :-) Just waiting for Ios and Offhollywood to start playing. My RedMote freezes (Epic Dragon combination) after a minut or so, have to restart the RedMote every time.... So just waiting for you :-)

I met Mikael at Cinec in Munich today. Great demonstration. Back home I just ordered Foolcontrol + Hotlink from Offhollywood.

also circle takes?

Circle Take is a metadata field that is only in REDCINE-X / RMD file, not in camera so cannot add this using foolcontrol... at least for the moment.
Would be great if we could add those extra metadata fields and notes in playback and have the camera create an RMD for it...

Worked earlier on an OS X app to review R3D and add all those metadata (before generating a foolcatalog for example) but shooting schedule prevented me from finishing it at the time... but might give it another try when I get the time...

Mikael that might be awesome for on set filming and huge help to post side of project.also for camera reports. And giving permissions to ipad owners he can only add metadata not change cam settings etc.
