  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

foolcat / foolmeta - R3D catalogs and metadatas ingest

The other clip with all same settings except using the skin tone OLPF does show correct angle of 360 in RCX while showing exact same speed of 1/24 or 42 ms exposure

Maybe that is a low light optimized OLPF trick, add that 0.345 degree of unobtainium photons :-)

Hi Mikael,
Just wanted to say: Thank you for continuing updating, and updating for free!
I really enjoy having your software.

Can fool cat be installed on two machines at the same time?

Hello

Yes you can install on laptop and desktop for example as long as it is the same user or that they are not used simultaneously...

Hi Mikael,

I just upgraded my desktop to El Capitan and foolcat doesn't work. The application runs but when I point to the source directory, it doesn't do anything. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

Best,
-Robin

Hello Robin

FWIW It is running fine here.
Are you using latest version foolcat ?
Please contact me by email foolcat@foolcolor.net so we can look into this.

Hi Mikael
I too am running into the same issue that Robin is having. Any workarounds?

foolcat 4.9 released !

- fix the El Capitan source / destination button issue
- adds an optional foolcat xml export for R3D clips. This xml uses a specific format to allow access to R3D clips metadata and foolcat's thumbnails (will soon be useful for those working with Codex backbone)

download free upgrade here : foolcat.zip

The update is terrific and working like a charm!

free version 5.0 upgrade brings R3D stills export, more project wide descriptions and new foolPDF engine with landscape mode, auto paper selection and fix for a paginate bug....

demo / update available to download from foolcolor.net

Thank you Mikael!

This has been my go to software to catalog the R3D's for a very long time! First thing everyone should do after a back up is Run foolcat and print the PDF. Very handly when you are searching for "that" shot!

1) Any plans to get FoolCat working on PCs?
2) Is there any way to get in working on windows 10?

Hello Brian, sorry but this app is Mac OS X only.

foolcat 5.20 (death star release)

can now create catalogs for 8K S35 HELIUM R3D clips (for the braves aka lucky ones)
also fixes an issue with files stored over a SAN
free update

Hey Mikael,

Amazing job! Love the paid version. One question, when you export with the R3D still option, is there anyway to click to download the middle frame R3Ds via html? I like to put the output on my site to send to DP & Directors and would love if there was a way for a colorist to click and download that middle R3D if he wants to start a pregrade etc.

wil try to add this, good idea :)

Thanks Mikael,

Also if there is anyway to add a PDF download text link at the top of each HTML page that would be very much appreciated too!

Wonderful software!

Hi Mikael,

Your foolcat-app works flawlessly with about everything I have shot but my old RED ONE-files from 2008-2012. I don't know if I am alone having this problem but if there is a solution it would be much appreciated.

When I load an old RED ONE-mag folder in the source directory, foolcat recognizes the correct number of individual R3D-clips in that folder. But when I click ”Create catalog” the app never gets pass creating thumbnails for R3D clip 1/xxx. Foolcat neither freezes nor crashes. It just sits there, so to say. A main foolcat cataloge folder is created but no files are generated inside it.

It would be great to have foolcat work on my early RED work. (The app does support older R3Ds, as I understood it.)

DETAILS

I’ve tried the following things on both a high end iMac 5K 2017, a MBP 15" 2013 and MBP 17” 2011, all with the latest MacOS and software, but the end result is the same:

1) Trashing the latest versions of foolcat and RCX-PRO plus preference files and reinstalling everything including the RED Apple workflow plugin.

2) Ran Disk utility.

3) Source directory in foolcat has been set to the original RED MAG-folder that was processed with the Redcine dating back to when it was originally shot (2008-2012). I tried both with the old QT-proxies present in the .RDC-folder and without them.

4) Source directory set to a duplicate RED MAG-folder processed with the latest RCXP 42 as well as the latest beta version of RCXP 50. Created new RMD-files each time.

5) Tried source directory set to either a) the RED MAG-folder, b) the .RDM-folder or c) the individual .RDC-folder.

6) Cleaned in and out set points of individual files.

7) Created new (RED ONE) R3D-files using RED TRIM in RCX-PRO.

As I said, foolcat has no problem generating catalogs for EPIC and EPIC-DRAGON or any QT-files I throw at it.

Thanks for a super app!

PS: Any chance you can update foolcat to create larger / higher resolution jpgs in the foolcat_files-folder? And while we’re at it, perhaps an option for increasing the number of jpg thumbnails generated for each clip? :)
