  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Pictures

Jaggies came in post, don't worry.

All shots were WFO.

I'm dead tired... we're back at my house now and it's time for bed. Tomorrow's another day of shooting... with more cameras! :)

We'll talk more about what we did tomorrow. We'll also put some time into lighting it... making it look better, etc. This was the "let's figure it out and then break it" test. More to come... much more.

G'night.

That's what I figured.

Great work guys and it is much appreciated!

My girl is watching TV next to me and she thinks I'm crazy right now getting this excited over seeing images of you guys...

2K H264 at 800/1000 looks like wow.
How much light was on? I'm noticing a little skewing when he raises his head, at the beginning; it's only me?

Brook/Tonaci,

Many thanks....very much appreciated!!!
have a good night.

Dave,

Amazing. looks good on the timeline.

Maaaaaan that 2K footage looks awesome, it even makes Brook look a bit like Leonardo Dicaprio.

RED works wonders.

The eyes grab.......beauuuuuutiful!

The nightcan grab, run, hide.

Hey guys, I'm at work right now. Luckily I work early Saturday mornings.

Thanks for all the sacrifices everyone made tonight. I was really excited just reading through all the posts. One of those jubilation feelings I can't shake. Very cool stuff.

What kinda playback are you guys getting with the 2k footage in Quicktime?

Joggy? Smooth?

Yeah, the night grab isn't anything to write home about, but it's interesting to think what 35mm would have done in the same situation.

Alright then it's not just me.

System Specs:

OSX 10.4.10 | FCS2
Quad 3.6Ghz Core 2 Quad
4GB DDR2-1200 Memory
GeForce 7900GS GDDR3 256mb Video Card
Plenty of Hard Disk Space

The H.264 Stutters on my system a bit.

I see on the photo that Evin is DP and shooting.

Also LCD is Panasonic.

My playback was perfect, no problems

system specs:

osx10.4.10 / FCS2
Quad 2.66 Ghz Core 2
2gb
x1900

H264 file playing well on a quad G5 here (4 GB ram, 7800GT 256MB, raid 0 internal drive).

QT player says 24 FPS playback but I do not have a 30" cinema display so i can only play it scaled or cropped...

A last little midnight snack for the fishes...

This was exposed at ISO 2000 and boosted another stop and a half, ISO 6000? lit with nothing but a sodium vapor lamp. At ISO 320 in Red Alert you could barely see the highlight on Brook's nose.
I'd say this image represents the bottom 2-3 stops of the total sensitivity of this camera and I can totaly see this as useable at 2K. Maybe even at 4k but I'm not familiar enough yet with the post processing to go there. This is still better than any film stock I've ever seen. I used a strong curve on the Red linear gamma to crush the blacks and keep it moody. I exported it out without sharpening but did a little smart sharpen in Photoshop which looks better than the Red Alert sharpening in a still. The combination of wavelet recording and out of focus post sharpening is what was responsible for the "Jaggies" on the earlier Night cam grab. I think this is better. Just to be clear there is no sign of that issue in the original capture! We really were pushing this cam to the limit tonight. But the possibilities for those brave enough to learn how to master this camera all the way to it's limit are astonishing. Enjoy.
