  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Pictures

Thanks for the samples... looking forward to more. I have my lil RED folder on the desktop just ready for more screen grabs and footage. This reminds me of the time when I was downloading HVX200 samples from Japan before the camera was released in the US.

okay.. im having trouble with getting my esata drive (to be clear..this is my own drive..not the red-drive) to mount. Not sure if it is my esata cable (which has gone bad for me in the past). I'm really frustrated. Evin has some footage he dumped as well into his computer which brings up a point. gotta have backup to at least two places. as soon as I get things working.. i will post it up. I can hear the drive spinning but nothing is showing up on my desktop.

okay status update.. external drive not working. evin will be up in about 4 hours. if I get anything on my end going, I'll post immediately.

We shot 4k redcode raw cf cards all night. Red-drives were not available yet.

tonaci, sorry for asking, which light was on on the 2k h264?

Jarred,

I think these tests, and those that follow, derserve their own forum... maybe called "User Field tests" to encourage more sharing as well as consolidate them into one area.

What does everyone else think?

Fantastic photo!!

Thanks guys for sharing your wonderful footage with the rest of us late comers. I wish I had serial number 2. EVEN 25 would be great.
If the actual digital pictures come out this nice, I think moviemaking is in for a new era of visual stimulation. It has the movie look and more dramatically-- the image is sharp and doesn't have that video or ENG look.

I can't wait to start making movies!

Good luck Tonaci and I'll be seeing you at the movies!!

Tonaci.
I see from the photos that the batteries are V-lock. Would a Sony or IDX work with the Red? Thanks for all your work in showing us the camera.

In the fxguide article here http://www.fxguide.com/article445.html I see the explanation about "ASA is metadata". I understand that as far as it goes, but for some reason I was thinking that even higher ASA settings were also possible by using an analog gain stage prior to the A/D converter. If so, the gain setting would be "baked in" to the recorded data and not just a metadata figure that could be undone in post. Anyone know if analog gain is just something that will be enabled later, or is it not a planned feature at all?

Dont know about their plans.
But I saw a post from Greame stating that post gain was better looking than analog sensor gain in tests.

Btw. this picture is priceless:

"Look mamma!"

I have been wondering, is there a printed owner's manual or an electronic one or both? Can this be shared with those of us who are still awaiting cameras?

I would love to have a read if at all possible.

good work guys.. ive put you all in your own forum now for User tests. I know we have about 8 shoots going on in parallel today.. so its gonna get pretty busy.
