  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Pictures

RedAlert exports 2k or 4k DPX or TIFF sequences you can bring into Shake, After Effects or whatever.....

DXP is 10bit, so using the REDLog curve will give best precision in the data. TIFF is 16bit, so you don't loose precision even when exporting linear light, but REC709 and REDLog work too!

We all were DPs last night... throwing lights and camera wherever we felt like it.

Can you all become good DP's today? :help:

Just give us a little interior scene, semi-lit.

As much as I like to see what the RED can do in uncontrived situation, I think the real test is to see what can be done when a young DoP gets his hands on it and trys to make some magic happen.

No excuses, just give us the goods!

Sorry to ask twice but... why is eveything 2:1 aspect ratio? Is this a post crop in RedAlert or is this now a shooting option?

Current recording is 4K 2:1 aspect ration (4096 x 2048). The "full" 4K will be enabled very soon (4096 x 2304) which is a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Good to know.

As far as the speed at which features will be updated on the camera, Toni said RED updated all the cameras 2 hours before everyone left with them at 8pm, and then they received a 2nd update over email later that night while they were shooting.

Crazy!

will this be available later anyway?.. after the firmware update?.. (btw, for when?)

Will what be available later? The 16:9 4K? Then yes, and of course that's a free firmware update. We just need to get things into line.

no, i'd like to know if..

will the 2:1 ratio be available later?.. same time than the 16:9 4K ratio?..

second thought or question.. when will the firmware be updated?

Firmware updates will happen all the time. It's likely that the 2:1 aspect will stay. Not sure how that will help you with anamorphics? That will give you more of a 4:1 image then...

sorry that on the anamorphics stuff, rob.. of course, not.. it's already fixed.. i meant to me, it's the same.. since all my stuff is 2:35:1..

i'm just a little bit drunk.. it's saturday night and you've given to us all these goodies.. lol

edit
i'm on a pub.. surrounded by playmates, go figure! ehehehehehe celebrating on and in your behalf.. :)

Firmware updates will happen all the time.
however, audio is a concern for my type of run 'n gun stuff.. do you have any idea when will the audio be (avail)able?..
