  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wireless timecode and wireless audio too. I.e no wires.

It's really beautiful integration and the amount of time it's going to save is amazing. One year and 2 months ago I mentioned the extreme desire for this in DSMC2 bodies. I hope something somewhere is in the works with Zaxcom or a something that can send from all audio mixers/recorders even. OMOD of course is one option.

I wonder how many deposits it would take to convince someone to tool up and crank these bad boys out? Sort of like a group buy situation, with the cost per unit dropping as the number of paid orders increased. I'd guess the cost of a one-off (or two off) is north of $25K, but IF they could be made in a decent sized batch for a reasonable price...

BTW - props to Phil for the photo of the camera team. The level of expertise exhibited by below the line craftspeople deserves 100 times more recognition than it typically gets.

Cheers Blair, I imagine this would be fairly a bit more north, maybe like The Wall north :)

Added some better pictures and specs to the first post.

How does the exhaust on the bottom of the camera work now? Does it funnel up through the top vents as an exhaust port, or does it go through around the shoulder pad still?

It shoots out flames via the top :)

I believe there's additional ventilation due to the extra components in there that generate heat that blows from the bottom behind the plate with intake above, similar to DSMC2 bodies, just not as alien.

The short answer is integrated:
- RED Weapon Dragon 6K Sensor Technology
- 7.0" LCD Touch
- Paralinx wireless video
- extended WiFi/Foolcontrol antenna
- RT Motion Lens Motor Control
- Zaxcom wireless audio and timecode
- Anton Bauer Gold Mount
- Shoulder Mount
- and a couple other sneaky things
- Xenomorph inspired brain design

While I'm intruiged by the setup and the custom job - after all every RED user has some geek part to him/her - I'm more interested in the project the guys are going to shoot with it. Up to now it was unthinkable to use Fincher and handheld in the same sentence. But this looks like he's up to something different!
Let's just hope he's not expecting the operators to operate as smooth as a dolly..
Well after all they shoot in 6K and display in 4K - and everyone knows how much Fincher loves stabilising shots in post :coolgleamA:

I can see why the decision was made to go with Zaxnet and Zaxcom digital audio. They really are innovative over there and I'm euphoric that those technologies got integrated into this camera.

Super happy to see a product from the company I started (PARALINX) included in this custom build alongside TRUE LEGENDS in the industry...

Although I can't take any credit for this integration it makes me proud to have something I built even be considered alongside some true Greats.

Very COOL STUFF!

I took the photo. Aparently It was stolen off my Facebook page :).

And couldn't agree with you more Blair which is why I led with the team instead of the camera..

This is designed for Fincher by Fincher exactly how he wanted it. you can't buy it . but it's a DSMC2 brain and module based off of the base expander so in reality you all could make your own versions of this if you wanted to...

People seem to be missing this point. It isn't a "new" camera, it's a DSMC2 brain with an awesome expander module. He has the means so he had the expander module based on his exact preferences. How amazing is it that this is even possible with a cinema camera at this level.

If I am not mistaken any DSMC2 brain could be swapped into this module and would be ready to go right?

Over the years people have asked for an Epic in a larger form factor, similar to Alexa. While I personally prefer the smaller form factor, there is no denying that this is cool.

"512GB RED MINI-MAG" is what it is. Perspective is throwing you off.
