  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is it? I want..

The short answer is integrated:
- RED Weapon Dragon 6K Sensor Technology
- 7.0" LCD Touch
- Paralinx wireless video
- extended WiFi/Foolcontrol antenna
- RT Motion Lens Motor Control
- Zaxcom wireless audio and timecode
- Anton Bauer Gold Mount
- Shoulder Mount
- and a couple other sneaky things
- Xenomorph inspired brain design

I got to see a bit of the progress of this thing. It's built to be a full fledged production ninja.

Wireless timecode and wireless audio too. I.e no wires.

So cool.

anybody weigh it? Doesn't look heavy and I get the feeling it's really well balanced.

It still looks too front heavy. And who needs such a big shoulder pad?
The electronic part is interesting though (exept of the Zaxcom preamp :reddevil: :biggrinjester:).

But I'm a bit jealous! ;-)

I am in line, actually, I just don't begrudge a great cinematographer his privilege. Looking forward to seeing what he and his crew do with this beast.

Then you are a better woman than me Gunga Dina '-)

Plus, I thought initially this was a new specialty line of camera that would only ship with 8k. As difficult as it is to create a working 8k sensor, if this were a new line and all the big Hollywood players suddenly decided they wanted one, how long before RED would cave to pressure from them to give them what they demanded?

They may have just decided they met their early adopter loyalty obligations by giving us a reduction in price while accommodating the players who spare no expense and wouldn't bat an eye at a $100,000 camera price.

That's my basis for the initial reaction.

Now a shell like this with rosette mounts on the camera body and monitor arm which positions the monitor in front of the shooter's face in HH.
Good opportunity for an OMOD.

Well Jarred, this went a LITTLE beyond what I was expecting ;)

Someone is spending more time with solidworks than with their significant other. Great work guys, this is exactly why we do this :)

Jarred, that is quite an amazing custom Job!

Have you guys thought about or considered releasing this, or a similar variant, as a special edition "Fincher-inspired" Weapon Xenomorph model?

This is designed for Fincher by Fincher exactly how he wanted it. you can't buy it . but it's a DSMC2 brain and module based off of the base expander so in reality you all could make your own versions of this if you wanted to...

I have no issues with cinematographers at the top of there game receiving treatment like this.
star wars had custom panavision cameras... and its a fantastic way to put ideas in the field and see what results they have on a real life production.

Personally I think it looks cool, its not the kind of configuration I would want to have all the time but I can see its benefits for sure, but thats one of the reasons I still love red, this was made for one production with that production and director/dops needs, the cameras we can buy are made with the idea that they are modular and we can mold them to our needs, essentially we get this kind of treatment as well, its just not as permanent, which is a great thing because if we all find things to complain about even though we can change modules imagine how sour the forums would be if we were stuck with things.
