  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FEB Update / IPP2 Preview 2

I have the newest IPP2 installed in camera including the current build of RED cine-x, but REDcine-x is still just showing DRAGONcolor2 & REDgamma4 under color space and gamma curve. It doesn't give me the option for the new red wide & g3 or whatever. New to the red system, Any help would be rad. Thanks.

Enable advanced options in preferences in RedCine. That will enable those options. I think you can also get those options if you hunt down the beta version of RedCine that includes the IPP2 preview stuff but I'm not sure because that one doesn't work on my machine (probably because of my wimpy GPU).

Thanks man!

Obviously the love I need most is to get my Scarlet-W delivered ahead of a huge load of big jobs coming my way starting in a couple of weeks, but am certainly intrigued by Jarred's cryptic message...

As of now, guesstimate would be closer to end of Spring/early Summer for that queue.

It is what it says on the FAQs:

"You are eligible to return your RED RAVEN BRAIN and purchase a RED EPIC-W with HELIUM 8K S35 sensor with a $10,000 upgrade credit, reducing the retail price of $29,500 to the RED Owner price of $19,500."

Upgrade pathes ended? i didnt apply for a upgrade yet.Is it over?

Any chance of a late March IPP2 update? I feel it must be so close now...

There are several users out there beta testing the soon to be released version. I don't know when RED is planning on unveiling to everyone else, but it's worth the wait!

Lemme decrypt for you :)

Ravens are being shipped at the same pace as last month, cutting away backorders chunk by chunk slowly but surely. We closed all new orders on those until we get caught up.

Scarlet-W we have invested (heavily) to increase volume the proper way, and as a result we will ship more Scarlet-W's in the month of March than we ever have in any month...

more Scarlet-Ws out the door this month alone than we shipped in October, November, December and January combined :)

That does mean Scarlet costs us more.. so price is gonna go up very soon... like before NAB soon... so everyone with an order in is obviously protected but just want to give a heads up that the increase is coming.

Improvements to Scarlet-W are going to be software based as the code is currently going through it's first big efficiency code improvement getting ready for IPP2 . So all new and all old Scarlet-W win.

Don't get too excited.. most of the visible improvements will be in terms of ProRes recording and file structure.

Speaking of IPP2... The next Beta for Camera and RCX drops next Friday.

Thanks for the update!

Any Prores / MXF spanned clip love? Offline edit would really love it! ;-)

I'd like that also, but it seems like that would be an NLE thing? Not sure if there's anything Red can do to address that other than poking the NLE devs to span clips properly.

Definitely looking forward to the update :)

Prores files split into a bunch of separate files for the same take is a total pain in the ass. You need to use Phil's or Mikael's party to rejoin them and it is slow and it is messy. Looking to solve that.

Redcode files still will be split into 4GB chunks because that is way safer to have them in chunks if something goes wrong and most NLE's automatically join them.

Jarred announced that they were moving away from Fat32 and 4GB file limits to large files.

EDIT: Lol. ^ A second too slow!

All sounds great. Nice to know the camera I will receive is a bit more capable than the one I ordered :)
