  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Very nice, thought IPP2 was only possible in-camera on Helium cameras. Glad to hear this.
 
From what I understand, there's more sophisticated color grading toolset that's going to be available in camera on Helium models that will only be available in post for non-Helium cameras. Graeme of course can give you a better answer than I can, but AFAIK the main difference is in the ProRes/DNx options captured in camera; for raw I think it's a "have your cake and eat it, too" situation.

Thats still true.. forking that out in the code for Helium cameras which is absent in Dragon cameras made room for something else in Scarlet-W ( and Magnesium Weapons )

I know it's hard to swallow for many still looking forward to gather funds to get their Scarlet-W or Raven, but as soon as the prices where announced, especially for the Raven but also for the Scarlet-W considering what you get. . .

I just knew RED was just NUTS (more nuts then usual) to sale at such a cheap pricing point, never mind the Upgrade paths. . .

A price increase was coming from day one. . . The lights need to be kept on, right?


But happy that so many of my friends did get such a great deal so far, and few more still have time to do so. . . For now :)

Yes I deserve that.. I was definitely nuts with Raven.

Raven was created in my mind with the vision that it would be a niche camera made as light as possible ( integrated mount ) and would be somewhat low volume as it was targeted solely just to go into gimbals and into the bigger flying drones... hence the name Raven.

I was very wrong.. the camera took such incredible pictures that it turned into a great A camera for a lot of people specially on a budget and the amount of orders completely paralyzed not only our manufacturing but our internal sales teams as well as our teams that manage our external dealers.

We are fixing the manufacturing part by throwing money at it.. but on the sales side for Raven to be successful, after we get through a bunch more of the backlog we will need to change how and where we sell it, and hopefully a mixture of all the efforts maybe, just maybe, some damn day we might finally catch up.

Scarlet-W is already seeing the results of the hustle. Epic-W is going to see a lot of love early next month ( april ) and the upgraded Raven machine should follow shortly after.

So yeah... Scarlet-W and Raven are gonna get more expensive. Very soon ( like fortnight soon ).

Epic-W uncertain if it is going to get a bump but right now thanks to one key partner that has a big appetite for all the trade-in cameras with the Epic-W trade-in program (that helps offset the increased costs) it might just be safe.

Whatever the case may be.. if you have been sitting on the fence waiting for the backorder to clear before placing your Scarlet-W deposit you might want to get that in before the shift... deposits are completely refundable and it's up to you but I just don't want people all pissed off at me when it changes suddenly and they didn't get an order in time.. because when the price does change.. its going to just happen and there will be no grace period after the fact.

And a big thank you for creating Raven. I knew from day one that this is an A Camera especially now that you have gold standard cinema lenses that have interchangable lens mount and the day I read Sigma moving into cinema lens territory I knew Raven was going to be swamped with orders. Its understandable so that something's got to give to increase turn out. Thanks for all the efforts and the clear heads up.

Pre-Oct 2016 S-W order, upgraded to Epic-W route (waiting allocation).
Thinking about switching to Weapon Helium now (e.g. as if I've gone another S-W upgrade route to Weapon Helium in Oct).
Has anyone does this, is this even possible?

Hi, I have a quick logistical question. What happens if you pay your deposit but you get allocated quicker then expected before you have the money for the camera outright? Does the paid deposit keep your place in the line with the lower pricing until you get the money together ?

After allocation, I had two weeks to pay in full. If I wasn't able to pay by that time, I was told they'd "do their best to accommodate." I assume that is the standard for everyone.

I've always been curious about this... about the who what and where the old cameras end up, either parted out into other new cameras or sold off towards... whatever. Looking forward to adding my trusty Scarlet Dragon to that mix, soon as my Epic-W is allocated. I'm secretly hoping it ends up being sent to Mars on some secret NASA mission.
 
I truly want all my fellow RED users and camera owners who have orders in, to get allocated. I see a lot of Raven,Scarlet-W and Epic-W activity, but is there any news on Weapon Helium allocations by any chance?
