  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FCS3 update v30.4 - Epic/Scarlet & REDgamma3/REDcolor3

Poi: known issue that we're fixing!

Thanks Rob, that FCS update was a welcome surprise this morning !

Peter: if you render to ProRes in RCX you don't have this issue
Works fine with RCX encodes, it's just not working with Log & Transfer within FCS.
It's just that I'd like to have the L&T workflow as it should be, pretty useless without audio.

I'm pretty sure you can reproduce/see the issue (as I'm not the only one)...

I'm currently extracting audio with a little workaround: Generating proxies in RCPX -> loading up the proxies in Audacity -> batch-export them in the desired format (e.g. AIFF)… not the most elegant way but works just fine in the meantime (FCP7 user). Still hoping for a "working" L&T workflow soon…

I tried the right click a clip in RCX and send to :AE or PR both don't do anything is this working at this point?

It should if you have the right plugin for Adobe installed (see the Adobe workflow forum). If it doesn't work please let us know which platform (Mac or Win) and the version of Creative Suite you have installed.

RCX could always spit out QuickTime reference files, but it was limited to RED ONE. Now it supports Epic & Scarlet-X as well. Not sure if these work in FCP X, as they're meant for FCP 7. For FCP X I would probably transcode to ProRes as it seems to like that format best. But try out your workflow and let us know :)

Hi Rob,
I made those proxies. In both FCP7 & FCPX I got about the same performance. Is it normal that 1/4 went smooth, but 1/2 wasn't usable because of the speed?
I was using an iMac i7, 8GB RAM, working from the internal disk. Not ideal, but it was as a test. I just want to know if that kind of performance is pretty much normal.

Hey Mathieu!

Yes, that's probably correct. Unfortunately, the way QuickTime works makes it impossible to really scale well.

Rob

I am using the Log and Transfer feature in FCP7. Preference set to Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) to transcode the R3D footage.

After importing the footage, I looked at some of it and it is incomplete. Some clips are only the first few seconds of the take while others are missing the last parts. Other clips are perfectly fine. I'm getting a bit worried. What's going on?

When I look at the footage in RedCine-X 11 it is perfectly fine, the entire clip.

After re-importing the clip via Log and Transfer it shows up as the full clip. This should be fixed though :)
