  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Forbes list of Billionaires

$3.0 bil... Congratulation sir

Kind of weird to have your info published though isn't it? I wouldn't want mine out there like that in this world.

Nice to have a comfortable nest egg in this economy eh? Maybe that island in Fiji isn't so far out of reach after all.:thumbup1:

Way to go Jim! Dang, the scope of that is intense. Basically me buying a latte & scone at Starbucks impacts my bottom line the same as him buying a set of Cooke S4s. Holy shit. Or if I drop a quarter I've lost the same amount as if he had bought two Macbook Pros. It is good to be king. So glad he's using this to push forward cinema, some of those other Forbes guys could take a real lesson here.

One thing I've learned from watching Mr. Jannard and RED is that there are some things money just can't buy. I don't mean that in the traditional sense either in terms of happiness or whatever. I mean that many of us think if we just had enough money, then we could get our invention or our film or or product to market. If it was just about money, EPIC would have been shipping by the hundreds a year ago. It's inspiring actually because it should encourage us all to focus on solving the engineering problems, technical challenges, production logistics and design constraints that can't be solved with money so that when the money comes, money will be all that it takes. I have a feeling that if we do that, and have faith, the money will come.

What I like about Jim is that he not only made his billions, he literally MADE his billions.

There are a lot of bullshit billionaires out there who either just were handed their money when their parents died or by riding other people's creativity in the stock market. They didn't actually create a product or service they just were really good and or lucky at shuffling money around.

Oakley made a great product. It sold well. The creators were rewarded. I feel like a lot of that is lost in the modern economy where substandard crappy products compete with one another not on quality or value but on which executive was able to cut $10m a year in costs by reducing lunch break by 45 seconds. Too many seem more interested in cutting expenses than generating revenue as if the very act of running the business was more important than finding and pleasing customers.

Yup. Being a billionaire doesn't impress me unless it is a self-made billionaire. And making money in the stock market doesn't count as you're not actually making anything. There are very few people that I can consider a role model these days, and Jim is up there at the top.

Shocking thing on that list was that #1 Carlos Slim has made $1.5 Billion every month
for the past year..no wonder..Mexico has the highest phone rates of any country
in the world.

But guys..come on..figure it out..if that list was anywhere on
Jannard's radar Red One would be $35k instead of $17.5k . Red as a company seems
designed more on what would happen if you sprinkled digital cinema cameras
like fairy dust over the world...what would spring up and sprout. So put away lists and
get out and shoot..sure they'd rather see links to Red projects than to Forbes on here.

But kinda biggest surprise on that list was George Lucas at
3 billion despite ILM and all those damn Star Wars toys..then again heard way
back he used to be into Ferraris.

Not really. There's a little thing called the supply and demand curve...you can actually make more money by selling more items for less. I can tell you right now that if the Red one body had been $35k that would have kicked me out plus a TON of Red owners I know. I think he picked the right price. Jim understands quantity and mass market. This is why i always try to ask for things cheaper :)

I must say Oakley sunglasses arn't what they used to be. I remember thinking the M Frames were the most best cool thing i had ever seen when they first came out. I think costner even had a pair in 'The postman'.
