  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X STAGE 3 and 3.5 Now Begins...

EEEK... I've been waiting so long for stage 3 and the moment it goes live and I login to Red.com it tells me:

You have no camera(s) eligible for this upgrade.

I have Red One number 445 and have owned it since brand new so I figure it should be there. I've contacted Dan Baum, my bomb rep but I'm a little concerned this might not be looked at until Monday morning. Is there anyone available to talk too now about this? I understand Red are busy with Scarlet and said not too call. I'm sure it'll be fixed but I'm ever so slightly concerned.

Cheers
Paul

We (RED US and Alan) will look into it. Remember, since order fulfillment is based on RED ONE delivery date, placing order today versus next week for Stage 3/3.5, for example, will not affect your order fulfillment timing.

ok, but how can they find out? if i through away all the papers, and packaging? it woyld be the same as i walk trough with my laptop all the time right?
First you'd have to have really rotten luck by being selected for a random inspection. And even then you might be able to bulls... ahem, explain your way out of it by claiming you had the gear with you when you left EU in the first place... ;)

Our stage 3.5 camera was stolen... I'm not expecting anything really, but to make sure I'm not missing something: Eligibility is tied to both delivery date and the physical camera/serial no. itself? ie. RED expects that exact camera back for trade in, not just any old Red One we may have chosen to replace it with?

Moot point really as we bit the bullet and bought an Epic-M and now a scarlet to back it up, but foolish not to ask.

John, talk to Alan. People with cameras stolen have options to still take advantage of Stage 3/3.5.

Brent, please look into this. I logged in fine but still getting the error.

Red must be shaking their heads at some of these questions :)

Sorry, that's what happens when you excite us with the baddest toys on the planet.

No worries, Ivan, I would be wondering, too. We can sort it all out on Monday. Your rep will come to me to look into it and get back to you.

RED is selling Stage III for 28.000 US!

As we know that will include Brain, PL Mount, Monitor, SSD Module, Redmote, Batteries... The package is sold for an discounted price.
We have to pay taxes and import duties for that 28.000 US-Dollars in the EU.

RED does not charge us real 28.000 US Dollars.
They will charge us only 10.500 US in money. We will give RED instead of the missing 17.500 US our RED One.
For the EU we paid 28.000 US-Dollar.

Hopefully Alan will explain us better the deal...

Any person who owns the camera as a business is likely to have to pay some taxes as well, the camera is traded in at full cost price, so any deprecation that has been allowed to date needs to be reversed.

We just got our notification for stage 3.5 today, which is great news but something is puzzling me.

According to the description, our RED One is eligable for a $17,500 credit against an Epic Brain at $27,500 yet the BUY NOW price from the link we were sent says $5,000. Normally on the store, it says DEPOSIT if it's a deposit but this doesn't.

Am I missing something?

You are placing an order for Stage 3 or 3.5 RESERVATION. Just like with Stage 2, the $5000 is the deposit amount - what you are BUYING NOW is that RESERVATION, if you will.

Get over it regarding customs and VAT !!

Customs is minimal (about 4% on accessories, 6% on optics) the camera if given the right TARIC Code will import without customs duties.
VAT is depending on your country, (19% in Germany) but as i guess most of us here running this as a business, you´ll get the VAT back.

So whats the point if trying to smuggling the camera in, and generating a lot of troubles when getting caught when you come in or try to fly out for a job the next time, or send the camera in for repair/upgrade.

I'm getting an error as well that says I don't have a eligible camera for upgrade? #2014

#2014? Confirm serial number. I do not have a "Mike" listed as owner (real names to search our records by sure help) and have it already executed as Stage 2. If you feel this is in error, send an email to your rep for it to be looked in to further.

I traveled many times from europe to the US and Back with big cameras in my backpack, i never had a problem.

Manuel when you re not running a business, VAT on 10 500 or 28000 is a BIG DIFFERENCE. i don't care about custom duties it's miniman and normal. But VAT is me concern.

Hey, seeing as you're drowning in money, I'll PM you my bank account number. $800 is a lot of money to me even if it's pocket change for you.

We're not given a choice of TARIC codes for Epic-X cameras imported into EU by RED Europe.

VAT is not an issue for me at all, for the reason you mentioned.

So whats the point if trying to smuggling the camera in, and generating a lot of troubles when getting caught when you come in or try to fly out for a job the next time, or send the camera in for repair/upgrade.
I won't attempt it and I don't care if someone else does. It's none of my business.

Certainly, although you could/would get into trouble if you're picked up for a random inspection at the airport by the customs officers. Not only would you have to pay import tax and VAT, they'd slap on a hefty fine as well.

And possibly confiscate your kit into the bargain......

ok, but how can they find out? if i through away all the papers, and packaging? it woyld be the same as i walk trough with my laptop all the time right?

They have their methods............bottom line, you take a big risk with very expensive kit. Most of the time you might get away with it, what happens if you don't.............

No worries here Brent, I know Alan and your goodself will take care of it. It's just that after waiting for what feels like an eternity to not see the button working is enough to bring a grown man to tears :-)
Can't wait now... Genuinely excited.
Thanks
Paul
