Sources have claimed that Southland won't even air on NBC anymore. Apparently they were supposed to have a Oct. 23rd premiere but NBC has pulled the plug. What a shame...hopefully another network will pick them up.

Well I watched it more than I ever watched ER. Extrapolating me out it should have been the most successful show of all time... then again so should Farscape. ;) I've given up trying to use myself as a barometer for show success.

Honestly, there was nothing about that show I enjoyed. I tried really hard to like it but was just bored to death as it was no different whatsoever to any of the other cop show dramas that have been done over and over again. I gave it a fair shot but it never stuck. Won't say I'm sorry to see it gone nor would i probably have noticed if this post didn't appear.

I got into that show.
Wonderful show.

We were cancelled today. It's an enormous shame - this season's episodes are very strong. It was very sad and entirely unexpected news today. We just screened the first episode on Tuesday and it was absolutely freakin' awesome. We were all joking about how we were going to renegotiate our deals for the back 9 episodes because of the great work we were doing. And then... out of nowhere... cancelled.

This article describes the situation best.

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens, either here or on my site. We're half way through the sixth episode [directed by J. Michael Muro, I might add], which we will finish next Friday.

It really does suck considering The Jay Leno Show took your slot, and that show just sucks. NBC Execs thought dark shows wouldn't work well on today's programming? That is the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time....have they not been paying attention? Maybe that's why NBC is still last in the ratings....

That sucks! While it wasn't my favorite show on tv, it Is certainly better than any of those "cheap and easy to produce" reality, game, and talent shows that are always on. Who the heck are these stupid people with Nielsen boxes?

My Condolences, Brook. :-(

Curran, It's not just Nielsen boxes anymore. But most current digital cable and satellite boxes also track and report viewing info. Sadly enough, those reality / talent / game shows attract a lot of viewers. I personally don't see what's so entertaining about watching a bunch of fat people get all emotional on The Biggest Loser or whatnot, but some people thrive on it I guess. I personally can't stand watching network TV most of the time because of all the commercial time slots. Especially in the higher rated shows that drive the network. Watching Heroes is like watching a 1 hour commercial block with 7 minute segments of a show sprinkled in. It sucks. ...Doesn't help that the Heroes train has already wrecked and is now rolling down a steep hill toward the river. ...I like Jay Leno, but his show at prime time sucks, especially with the altered format that's more like Ellen... Sucks.

Ah, that makes sense. I was wondering why it was $5 cheaper to have a digital cable box than to not have one. It is because they wanted to track me!

So, I took the box but never installed it. I only have basic cable anyway...

Actually it's because the digital uses a lot less bandwidth. They can more efficiently compress the signal letting them use the extra data pipe for internet service, phones and more channels.

The cheap reality shows reign because intelligent literate viewers who enjoy well written and produced dramas don't watch network TV anymore. The networks get the viewers they cater to when they produce cheap junk and they cater to the viewers the ratings say are watching. It is an endless downward spiral into a black hole.

This blows my mind! Because I just saw Southland filming on Wednesday over on Highland near Hollywood blvd.

This is so sad. I loved the show. My whole family watched it.

oh boy ... i'm angry at NBC... it reminds me of something "i'm mad as hell and i can't take it anymore" the Film called NETWORK ( 1976 !!!) ... pretty up to date, ha ???

i'm so sorry for the cast & crew ... it was a really dam good job !!!

Rumor has it that ABC is interested in picking up the show. There is still hope for this show.

that would be nice ... btw: ABC had to reparable the droping of BOSTON LEGAL (a "few months" ago) anyway! ;)))
