  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X STAGE 3 and 3.5 Now Begins...

So excited. Stage 3 deposit placed. Looking forward to 300fps, and some 5k 120fps, and 13.5, and some HDRx. RED is one of the best investments I've made, ever. Looking back to Halloween 2006 I'm so glad I took the risk. Stage 3 package is amazing. Thank you.

ok, but how can they find out? if i through away all the papers, and packaging? it woyld be the same as i walk trough with my laptop all the time right?

Customs officers need not to find out anything. You have to proof, that you paid import Tax und Vat. If they got you, you have to pay Tax and VAT AND a fine. And dont forget: They can get after years...

Hi!

I always use my RedOne 70% with Nikon glass.
Stage 3 Exchange program with out Nikon mount means that I can not do my job with my Nikon's.

So,I hope having my EPIC with Nikon mount it would come.
And I would like to know actual delivery time of Nikon mount and estimate price.

Thanks.

I'd like to know it, too.

Cheers
Thomas.

anyone with a REDONE stage 3 with the SSD side mount, find one of us with a REDONE (from stage 2 or whatever)

maybe we can get an install the SSD on our cameras.

Actually RED should make a special program where they maybe allow for people turning in their REDONES, stage 3, can pass along their SSD side mount on people not turning in their REDONEs....

I'm sure if it's possible these SSD mounts will show up in the battle tested section of the RED store.

Huh? I'm a Stage 2 upgrader and I still haven't gotten my email :(

John, talk to Alan. People with cameras stolen have options to still take advantage of Stage 3/3.5.

BC

Will chat to Alan on Monday. Very interested to hear if our original purchase is still recognised in some way even though we were unfortunate enough to have the camera stolen.

Seems to me that Stage 3 guys got better deal than Stage 2 guys. They can get same package as Stage 2 and with price difference +2000$ pay for Scarlet. Not to count 5000$ payed 16 months ago.
Not complaining just little :emote_headwall: envy.

We will be clarifying the EU process shortly.
Certainly, the final invoice price for Stage 3 / 3.5 cameras will be in UK Sterling and will include import duty and freight to the UK

Alan.

Have you investigated if it would be possible to include import duty to final destination country, instead of USA>UK>third country?

Cheers

Hello Guys

Just to be sure...does RED ONE Accessory's work on EPIC X

- RED EVF
Some of them do, some don't. it depends on the EVF firmware.

- RED DRIVE ( for recording in 4K)
No. Red Drives cannot be used with Epic/Scarlet.

- RED BRICK
Yes, but you need this to adapt your R1 battery plate: B2-to-B1 Power Adapter Cable

- DRIVE CABLE / DRIVE CABLE
No. But no point to it without the drive.

Hope this helps.

Of course Stage 3 turned out to be a better deal than Stage 2, just like I planned it! Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket....

But seriously, when RED offered the alternative--what was it? three years ago?--with fantastic specs for the new generation Epic and promising a much faster ramp up in production from the Red One go round, it seemed pretty clear to me, even then, that Stage 3 was the winner for at least a couple of reasons.

With such a compelling set of new specs and features promised, along with a much lower-cost, yet new-generation Scarlet standing by as a b-camera alternative, there seemed to be no good reason to hold on to the R1. Why forego the benefits of new gen features and specs to hold on to a years-old camera, when the manufacturer is offering to buy it back from you at FULL ORIGINAL PRICE? Seemed to me like a no-brainer. And, as it turns out, Scarlet is an even closer match for b-cam than the Scarlet Fixed would have been. Use it at 3k to 4k, restrict it to close-ups or shots with minimal detail, and, in most situations not using HDRx, you'll be fine.

Of course, there was sentimental value of the R1, not for me, but apparently for others. They would have had you believe that after a few more years of usage, their R1s would be happily retired to a shelf in their office, where they could point out to their grandchildren (and e-bay collectors) the camera that began the digital revolution in cinematography.

Many Stage 2ers were counting on having still-scarce Epics in their hands months before the rest of us and would, therefore, be reaping rental benefits like those who were earliest in receiving their R1s. Unfortunately for them, the Epic M ruined that for them. But, even under the premise that RED presented in the beginning--namely, that production would ramp up quickly with the Epic generation--the early rental benefits imagined seemed chimerical to me.

Also, a quick ramp up in production would also present the possibility that those beloved R1s might actually quickly turn to lead as soon fickle Stage 2ers got their hands on their shiny golden Epics and would flood the R1 market with what would all-of-a-sudden feel like, well, hunks of lead. (Take a look at the current asking prices for R1 packages beginning to show up on this site.)

No thanks. I was happy to let RED take my R1 off my hands at FULL ORIGINAL PRICE and hold on to my titanium r as a memento.

Besides, I didn't want to have to deal with what would, inevitably, be unfinished firmware, just like in the R1 cycle. Actually, quite a bit of this early development was covered in the Epic M part of this cycle. But note that, even nearing the end of Stage 2, playback has yet to make it into the firmware, along with many other expected features/specs. I can't afford to have an early-development camera spoiling good will on it right out of the gate, before getting a fair chance with a minimum set of basic features, eg. playback. Hopefully, by the time my Epic comes up in Stage 3 and I am asked to relinquish my R1, most or all of the features found on the R1 will be present. Otherwise, I'll have to deal with some confused clients who won't understand the logic of moving to a newer, more expensive camera with fewer features than before.

I wish I could keep my R1, I really do. Stage 3 is the only way I can afford an EPIC-X. I don't usually get attached to camera equipment, but I don't do this for business, but as a love, passion and hobby. I guess the attachment happened organically.

The day I send back my R1 will be a sad day.

Am I reading this wrong ... is the Scarlet X shipping before Epic X Stage3? If this is true then Stage 3 will get their cameras just in time to have to upgrade to the new chip. More money. Does not seem fair.
