We are a rental company in Leeds, UK with 4 RED One Cameras, and we have a recurring problem with customers scratching our LCD monitors.. It's costing a fortune in replacement screens!!
Does anyone know of a suitable screen protector for the 5.6in Monitor, either solid perspex or even a peel on/off version?

david just beat me to it -- i just bought the 5.6 inch version of these and its been great. had handled production carelessness very well.

The other thing to bear in mind is rhino glass will protect against pressure marks as well in case some dozy, useless leg-end pushes their thumb into the screen and leaves a nasty mark...

We repair the 5.6" panels to like new condition and also offer contrast enhancement that significantly improves contrast, colors , detail and brightness over the stock unit. All that at a fraction of a replacement cost.

If you're not interested in buying one, I've seen people cut a piece of plexi glass and use velcro strips to affix it to the border around the actual screen. Worked fine and didn't seem to degrade the picture.

My $.02

I've spent a lot of money at Filmtools, and have generally been really happy with my purchases, but this one of the lemons IMHO.

The Velcro tape doesn't adhere to the glass particularly well, and wants to pull away even without any force acting on it. Then there is the problem of the Velcro attempting to stick to any and all surfaces it comes in contact with.

Further when you use the hoodman and attempt to remove it the Velcro on the glass is fixed much more strongly to the hoodman. So when you remove the hoodman the tape always starts to peel off the glass, so you have this tar baby situation to separate the two. God help you if you don't line the two up exactly right when you place the together as you have to do the tar baby dance all over again.

Is it better than nothing probably, is it a great solution. Not so much.

Per somebody smarter than me (Anders Yarbrough & Ernesto Lomeli), my rhino glass is siliconed onto my LCD.

Works great, won't ever come off (unless I want it to).

This is what I have done for my 7" and my 17" LMD monitor. In a production environment people are just too busy sometimes to take the care needed to handle the LCD displays. If you scratch the plexi glass you just replace it with a new piece.

Do you repair also 7" LCD?
If yes, does the fixed LCD have the same "soft" film cover or will it be replaced to somewhat more durable?
Any cost estimates to this work?

Got a big scratch on our 7" LCD and looking for the options now.

Also looking for some 7" repairs. Where did you guys find 17" protection screens?

This stuff is pretty good (the USP for me was that they say it's "military grade", used to protect the rotor blades on Apache helicopters...I'm a sucker for all that stuff :gun:):

I've got some on my iPhone and enquired about having some cut for the dimensions of a Red LCD which I don't think they'll do but you can just order a big enough bit and cut it to size yourself. As advertised it's pretty much unscratchable but if anything does happen to it or if it gets worn you can peel if off without leaving any residue & replace it with another piece.

Me too. Offers protection from scratches without making the iPhone any bulkier than it already is.

Yup. I got the one made for a Dell tablet and it is big enough for two 7" LCD covers.
