  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-X ETA Update?

We All are...

well , aver a month later they could give an update ...off course what happened is nobody's fault and the japan issue was a big tragedy ...but i guess Red could now ,over a month later , give an update on their status of production (meaning if they found already or not replacements parts manufactures ) .... we don't want to start thinking that is kind of "nice" for Red delay Epic-X even more to sell more epic M at that price ...

That's silly to suggest. They've stated several times that Epic-Ms are way more expensive to produce, thus likely have a much lower profit margin than production-line models will be.

Good way to go to the back of the line...

Same situation as before. Just because the headlines have turned to basketball and Libya doesn't mean the lasting effect of the Japan situation isn't causing every manufacture grief.

updates would be nice. The "Japan effect", as terrible as it was, should be producing some clear cut answers as far as sourcing is concerned. Other threads where customers have been waiting almost a year for SSD's is really a concern as well. I am so not religious but I do have faith in RED. Am I crazy to believe I will have a Fixed Scarlet in my hands by August?..

Maybe not crazy but, perhaps, optimistic? :001_smile:

yeah, I suppose.. I'm pretty close to abandoning S Fixed and waiting a year or so, or...... for Epic S ; )

Pretty sure it's a weird assumption to make that RED would rather do EPIC-Ms then X's...think they want both...

but if the situation is still the same guess it answers the question for some that were waiting whether to go inquire for an M or not...

would it be possible that stuff will start by end of summer 2011 or is the problem looking like it'll drag manufacturers further back then that?

It's all good. When you got those parts for production nailed down, and ready to say so, we'll be looking for that post in RECON. 'Till then just keep rolling those EPIC-M's out... :-)

I wouldn't bet on it. Jim's "nothing new to report" report isn't very hopeful for seeing mass-production of Xs or Scarlets soon. I'm glad the M continues to be an option!

i am glad there is at least epic M.
me and my partner paid for our epic M 2-3 weeks ago,
i have no clue when it will arrive.
i just know it should come soon, hopefully soon is next week :)
man, cant wait for the moment holding M in my hands.
the red guys are doing their best to get the epics out the door, so its only fair to value their efforts.

there would be no sense to "create" a delay. red would delay the production of epic s (quite big market i can imagine) and other products, too. it is fact that japan´s tragedy has effect on the whole industry, when you order today a mac with SSD, there is a delivery time of 6-10 weeks too. so red has definitely no other chance as we have: patiently waiting. it´s what it is. can be june, july, august, who knows ... things must learn to run again.

@ kaja: congrats to berlin: i pushed the "interest" button for a M, too, somewhere 2-3 month ago, but did not get a response as you obviously got - so congrats to be selected! please write your experiences in the german reduser forum. hope to see some M´s in south germany too very soon.

this epic is my partners order, a second M is planned though
and a couple of epics will hit germany in the next couple of months ;)

@Jochen... You forgot D) All of the above.

I don't understand the conspiracy theorists who think X is being delayed so they can sell more M's... The number of M's being sold is pretty small. Only RED knows what their profit margins are, but with the hand-assembled nature of the M, combined with difficulties sourcing all the necessary parts, there probably isn't much (if any) profit built into them. According to my M invoice, the M body is about $7K more than an X body. Then factor in the titanium PL mount, media, EVF, machined REDMOTE and side handle, etc.. All that adds up. It seems expensive compared to the amazing values offered in the Stage-2 and Stage-3 upgrades, but the M isn't a bad deal at all. It's a very good deal considering what is included and that it can be ordered now. Of course, the M package as offered doesn't fit everyone's needs. Not everyone needs or wants the titanium PL mount, as an example.

All that considered, RED still can't make M's fast enough to satisfy demand. Some of us have ordered and paid for M's weeks ago and have yet to see one. ...Just sayin'

Not to rain on you parade but it doesn't make much sense:
If Red has 98% parts sitting in inventory including the cast housings(?) why would they continue to hand assemble?
Why not just allocate the missing parts even at sky high prices and start production at their new facility? Why have it sit idle while spending a fortune for hand assembly?
They could test drive the systems - inventory control, QA, etc. since they are running small numbers.
No matter how high the cost of the 2% parts is that would surely save them a fortune.....
Jim is much smarter than that I think...
I'm sure they thought of it long time ago.
Also they are tons of other aspects that I'm not aware of I'm sure.
And I'm 100% sure that RED is doing everything to offer the lowest price they can (on M)-it's just how free market works in this country....
