  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic-W

Also, to be taken into consideration on the price breakouts by body is that its been stated that Raven price will increase post preorder deliveries. I feel like it would be possible for S-W price to also go up since theres not a lot of room to go up from $6k Raven to $10k S-W. Those price hikes could fill the current gap some. Say for instance Raven goes to $8k and S-W goes to $12k-$15k

Just a thought..

Well, I'm hoping that Epic-W is going to be an upgrade that allows us to keep our current Dragon (or MX) body - like the 'stage' days of the R1.

Essentially, considering the price points of Raven/Scarlet-W, it doesn't make much sense (IMO) to do a trade in deal and loose your current Epic-D/MX to go to the new form factor (albeit it, with some advantages as listed by others).

My thoughts would be, initially, that the Epic-W is only available to current D/MX owners and is a keep your current body & get a new Epic-W. After that, it'll be available off the shelf and slot into the DSMC2 line up above Scarlet-W (but underneath Weapon). so you'll have Raven, Scarlet-W and Epic-W and then Weapon (6K/8K and beyond).

I think this is about separating 'lines' - the lower DSMC2 tier for a certain user group and the Weapon DSMC2 tier for another (who'll be continuously updating and moving their camera systems to the next level).

When was it announced prices would go UP? That's something I hadn't heard before...

not sure what thread it is on at this point, but jarred mentioned it's likely to go up after the initial preorders are all filled.

So far the price increase comment was only about Raven. But I could see Scarlet W creeping up a little after initial adoption also as it is such a sweet deal.

I thought DSMC2 was a prerequisite to the new features. Maybe they would do that for Epic. I have a Scarlet Dragon and would pay to upgrade to 3D Luts, higher processing and frame rates and low Res ProRes like Scarlet-W and keep the old body and the 6K sensor. It's just never been an option as far as I've heard

this theory is a little off considering the quote from Jarred is talking about the epic MX not being left behind.. surely if people could afford the 8k sensor they would have gone for the dragon upgrade..this must be something else.

You make a point, It was a while since I viewed the original thread and I had in my mind that it was the Epic Dragon he was talking about...that blows my theory out of the water :/

This may also simply be say a $2.5K credit for Epic MX owners jumping to Scarlet-W. Could be as simple as that.

that makes the most sense. why introduce yet another camera system they should of just offered that in the first place.

No smart guy with an MX is going to jump into a scarlet, wasn't their a new sensor coming up masteo or something like that. Not going to do anything until I see what's in the cracker jack box.

I don't understand why people are rejecting 5.5k so easily. Jarred was talking to epic MX guys. 5.5k on dragon is the equivalent of 5k on epic mx. 28mm wide sensor became some kind of standard for Red and Arri. Something like 17500$ for a 180MB/s DSMC2 5.5k camera would be great. And would make sense in the lineup.

This almost feels like it'd be rewarding those who held onto their M-X and Epic Dragon cameras - keep it and get a discounted new body rather than trading it in. So, for something that may have been the price of the Magnesium trade-in/cost to upgrade, you get to have two cameras (your old body and the Epic-W).

Yeah, you're right. Just a guess on my part and probably way off... or maybe just wishful thinking ;)

Anyway, Red always do odd stuff (like the Epic-X half price cut), so who knows what they have cooking... never a dull moment around here, LOL.

Im assuming if they offered a discount for Epic MX, it would only be for a Scarlet-W. If you need a 6K DSMC2 camera, I'm sure you'll need to send in your original 6K Epic Dragon (DSMC1) camera - so they can reuse your sensor.

My guess is those 6K sensors are MUCH MORE expensive than the 5K and 4.5K batches - hence why Weapon Magnesium is significantly more $$ than a Scarlet-W.

dont kid yourself...specs on both epic dragon and weapon are exactly the same...Im not sure but i compared specs on both cameras back at NAB and they were exactly the same. So perhaps its a software upgrade like the old days...pre epic. or maybe send camera in if it is a board. It certainly would get the dollars left out there from those hundreds of people that didn't see the reason to upgrade a maserati for a ferrari

I know that, which is why I said, "in several important ways". So in my view the fact that RAVEN is DSMC 2 is one of the ways Raven beats the EPIC Dragon. That's today. Moving forward, RAVEN has the ability to get future updates that will only be available to the new form factor and boards. EPIC Dragon will not.

wrong!! you don't know what your trying to say...a 6k debayer is always a cleaner 4k outcome...a 4k debayer is somewhere around 3.2K
