  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic-W

There was. In the first post of the other thread, dude says he is thinking of selling his Epic Dragon. Jarred replies; "If it was me, I would wait a bit till I offloaded that Epic. Just saying."

yeah, im not sure if he slipped up and just meant mx, but he DID initially respond to a dragon question, then mentioned mx.

for me there will be no Epic-w. I do not think hast sense.
So I think the message Jarred want to indicate that is going to get something that is worth the wait.
So for me it is going to get the new Weapon MG 8k later this year, at a good price, with less performance Weapon Cf.
And the old Epic Dragon owners will have a nice discount. eheheh

just my thought.

True. But right now they have a $6K brain (RAVEN), $10K brain (SCARLET-W), $30K brain (Magnesium) and $50K brain (CF). Wouldnt surprise me if they add a $20K brain (EPIC-W).

This makes the most sense of anything I have read in these fine pages.

I personally don't think an Epic-W should be less than 6K.
The Scarlet-W is a great camera, but the sensor size reduction from the Scarlet Dragon is a minus in my opinion. One of the reasons why as a Epic Dragon owner I would not buy one and keep my Epic instead. But a DSCM2 body with my current or slightly better specs would be nice, if the price to pay sits right. DSCM2 processing squeezes better quality out of the Dragon sensors, according to what I read here.

I totally agree. I'm only interested in Epic-W if it's 6K.

Haha you guys are such resolution junkies .....
What if it was 4K but had pixels the size of a melon? ;-)

Actually, it's more the SIZE of the 6K sensor I love. RED really found a nice balance btw RESOLUTION and SENSOR SIZE with 6K Dragon. I love the look, personally.

It's quite possible Epic-Dragon owners keep their cameras and receive a slightly larger discount off an Epic-W package.

Interesting. Yeah, I could see a $5K discount for Epic-Dragon owners...for a $20K Epic-W (ie would only cost $15K for brain). That would be GREAT.

5K, 6K with high frame rates, 8K with high frame rates, ALL in DSMC2 bodies with all base functionality available, should be the simple lineup. It's starting to get confusing otherwise. The differentiation should be in modules and the like. There should be a upgrade path in this lineup all the way to the top.

Just some wishful thinking on my part for simplicity and opportunity.

I think it's going to be ONE camera. In the $20K price range. Not multiple cameras (they already have six!).

If Epic-W is a thing, lineup would look like this:

1) WEAPON CF 8K: $75K
2) WEAPON CF 6K: $50K
3) WEAPON MAG 6K: $30K
4) EPIC-W 6K: $20k? <---- you can clearly see need for $20K camera, fits in perfectly
5) SCARLET-W 5K: $10K
6) SCARLET MONOCHROME 5K: $10K
7) RAVEN 4.5K: $6K

I think it seems like too many cameras already and it runs the risk of becoming comical. The Weapon MG in my mind is the Epic W. If you make a 6K DSMC2 that is 10K less than MG then you may as well forget the MG as what possible spec differential could there be at that point to justify the cost? Shave off a little compression etc..No pro rez. The MG already only does 2K pro rez. The body material is not worth the money. The Scarlet is already screamingly competitive at 20K less. So pretty soon the line-up would start to cannibalize itself and implode.

what do you think will be the difference btwn 3 and 4?
i think the goal is to get everyone in the new dsmc2 system right?
