  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC / SCARLET Firmware 3.3

Is audio coming out of HDMI or HDSDI? Can you try resetting to factory defaults and checking if the audio is still missing?

What kind of headphone are you using? Headphones with four conductors (like the iPhone headphone with integrated mic) won't work.

Hi Trent,

Tried resetting to factory defaults, still no audio coming out the headphone jack during playback.
Again, I am using professional headphones (plus I tried several other headphones with the same result) and the audio is definitely there (audio levels are moving and the audio is perfect when I convert the Raw files to ProRes etc).

OK so what does the menu CAM MIX and VOL say ( in AUDIO section )

Hi Stuart,

The VOLUME OUT is set at ACTIVE (for both channels CAM LEFT and CAM RIGHT) and the level is MAX (0 Db)
The CAM MIX says CAM ANALOG for both channels (Channel 1 is Left and Channel 2 is Right) and both are set to the MAX level.

I believe this is correct?
Thanks!

Upgraded to this build for the audio playback capability. Had not tried out audio on my EPIC until tonight. What I'm finding is that using this RED cable (http://www.red.com/store/products/xlr-microphone-cable-20) I get a lot of hiss/pops. I narrowed it down to just touching the minijack that's plugged into (snugly indeed) the camera generates the noise. Any movement creates a lot of loud hiss/noise.

Is there a problem with this cable/jack that causes a loose connection and the noise? Ofcourse I did check to make sure everything was snugly fitted.

If I keep it all still and record, the audio records/plays back fine.

Wish I could afford the proio module, but I can't... Anyone else using this cable and hit this issue or can offer any workarounds/solutions? Many thanks!

EDIT: I see there's lots of commentary regarding issues with these audio jacks, so looking for any tips/tricks anyone has used to make them work well with this cable. If no luck, I may have to go in for another accessory.

Hi Jeetu!

I know you probably did, but have you tried a "factory default reset"? It usually solves some of these problems. I do one every time I upgrade...

Hope this helps!

Yes, we did all that... but no luck yet...
Awaiting RED Support to revert with suggestions!

I have noticed this same exact thing, but I am using a different cable. I'm pretty sure it is those horrible headphone jacks.

I'm going to agree. I read in one of the threads that using phantom power makes it worse, so am going to pop a battery into my Rode, turn off phantom power, and see if that helps any.

Oops, read too fast and thought you were talking about the Mic jack. My problem is with that jack. I see the audio meters go haywire when the cable going into the mic jack moves even a bit. No headphone in the equation here.

FYI - looking on page 165 of the 3.3 rev-a1 manual, the Headphone jack is mislabeled as E: GIG-E(Ethernet) instead of E: Headphone

Yeah, no phantom power here... I'm using a cable from my MixPre D to the headphone jack.

I have that issue with the adapter cable going in from my shotgun. If I put my little Tascam recorder in between, though, it totally clears up.
