  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-S (old Scarlet S35) update...

There is scaled 1080P (or is it 2K?)...

Jim

I personally can't wait to see how that scaled 1080p stuff is coming along. Should be quite interesting, and extremely beneficial.

Cheers!

Bring on lower noise, higher dynamic range, more resolution and yes, when desired the sexy DOF.

Sexy indeed when called for, but you want and need the longest possible depth-of-field for macro filming. I was fed up with having only 1mm in focus across a watch movement. The MX upgrade has already given me at least 2 stops advantage and the higher resolution and DR of Epic promises even better results. There have been hints - almost promises - that suggest I might see my Epic around May or June. Sheer delight in prospect.

Great news ! (ok... Scaled 3K would be nice too but damn if it can be 2K/1080P it's almost perfect for me !)

Scaled options also available on Scarlet ?

My wife and I purchased a set of RED Pro PRIMES last April in anticipation of the Scarlet S-35. Now we can see the end, the "EPIC-S" at the end of the tunnel.
Hope to have one soon.

Think about it... if you have the glass, don't you have to get the camera? It was my plan all along, just don't tell my wife;-0

So....any confirmable (hahahahahahha) news on the specs of the Epic S? Thought I'd stir the pot a little.....

Has RED mentioned what lens mount would be needed for their upcoming electronic lens? I am hoping they use the EOS mount... but I would not bet on it.

RED's electronic lenses are going to use their own RED Electronic Mount. Or at least that was the story back when they announced those lenses. I'm betting we don't see RED's electronic lenses until we get closer to the next generation Monstro sensors as the lenses are designed to cover FF35.

Are the RED electronics lenses going to be primes or zooms?

Also, considering what you've learned from the building the EPIC (sensor, ASIC, et al.), is the Monstro sensor coming sooner or later than we might anticipate?

Yes... Canon mounts are complete and functioning ( just fine tuning the auto focus and adding more and more lenses to the database ) . Nikon mount en route.

How much will the canon mount cost?
Sorry if this has been asked already but I couldn't find any info.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

I am not sure if this has been asked or answered.

Will the EPIC-S have an upgrade path to EPIC-X?

Yup. Swap out the brain with your previous brain and use the same modules. :)

No, you cannot trade it in for more money. The trade in for the RED One to EPIC-X was to "make good" the promise of "rendering obsolesence obsolete".

So

After three months with an S, you could not ship it for an upgrade to M? Seems like it would be a matter of swapping out boards.

I wish it was really just 8x Scarlett and epic x and m.
