  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC production...

wow and here i though there were just the handful ( 20 or so) from EPIC-M user forums, and the 30 for Mr. Jackson, plus other features being filmed right now. This is great news! Once Epics infiltrate the industry, more and more people will get inspired by RED's mission!

Congratulations, Jim. You have a very hot product on your hands which, I'm sure, will make even the RED One sales pale.

Sorry for the off-topic question, but I was wondering where the Epic-S is in the schedule? I don't mean a date, I mean a chronology. You used to say that it was first Epic, and then Scarlet, with the 2/3 fixed coming first, and then the S35mm Scarlet last. But then that Scarlet became the Epic-S, and I'm wondering if this pushes the camera behind the 'normal' Epic production and in front of Scarlet production, or if the chronology is Epic-X, then Scarlet, then Epic-S? I don't think I've seen that answered around here.

Thanks and best regards,

Sweet.

I was just curious, how many individual parts make up the cameras?

From a while back. Not sure how much has changed...

For those of you that can't quite comprehend the complexity of what we are trying to do... consider that there are 70 boards and 11,000 pieces on an EPIC-X (with modules).

Just food for thought while you are waiting...

Jim

Wow! 250+ is a ton of Machined Epics. Exciting times ahead and very much looking forward to seeing some Epic Footage Project at NAB!

All EPIC-X orders are to be fulfilled before the EPIC-S will become available. End of Summer?

Scarlets seem to be on a different assembly line, beginning with the different (smaller) chassis. I suspect a fair amount of Scarlets will be built and ready for limited shipping by NAB, at least in the physicality of it all. Right now, I think it's beginning to be a question of whether the firmware is going to be ready and bulletproof in that timetable.

I hope that the REDworkers can get a "free sample" from the factory !

but the total number of EPIC-Ms out now is in excess of 250. I think that is half the population of Alexa's. The number shipped EPICs should surpass 500 before NAB.

It would be phenomenal and well deserved if Red outperforms and takes over the industry.

I hope to be in the first 2500 owners for the Scarlet.

We are in the process of moving EPIC production from Stage 6 at RED Studios Hollywood to the permanent location in Irvine. There will be a bit of downtime during the move.

We have heard some competitors say that we have only shipped a few EPICs out to "my friends". While it is true that some early RED ONE customers, which also happen to have become my friends, have received EPIC-Ms... but the total number of EPIC-Ms out now is in excess of 250. Ha ha! I remember reading an Avid press report to Grant Petty where they were bosting about the number of HD seats they'd sold the previous year (now, what, seven or so years back). Grant just chuckled and pointed out we'd sold more HD cards than that over the previous week.

They always forget to mention, when they talk down your percentage numbers, just how many the percentage is taken from.

Wow, 250 units is already huge ! But 500 till nab is amazing.

Jim, what you're doing here with epics M and the schedules is really impressive. Competitors don't even realize they're going to be outnumbered before falls.
Respect ! ;)

That is the reason why I would never start a camera production or likewise. I would get angry at these begrudging remarks all the time. Where has all the gentlemanship gone to?

I really hope you cope better than me, Jim! :coolgleamA:

500? Are we talking about 500 Epic-M or 500 Epic -X? if about Epic-M so what about Epic-X?

So by definition, their first customers were actually the companies enemies and rivals then?
