  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Free RED upgrade or user paid?

Will the fans be part of Dagon upgrade process or available separately? 2013?

This was kind of unexpected, i just counted on a improvement coming with Dragon, but not for "old" hardware. Really cool and important stuff, very welcome. Thanks a lot RED.
 
This tells me 3 things.

- Dragon 6k wont generate less heat
- A new body is not yet in the work
- They finally listened to the users (praying for Toia's module now)

BTW as an user I can't be happier!

My answer was in response to the question of what the Fan grill was... I ma sure we'll see a nice re-design all together, and I could not be happier, I just hope I can do it all at once with the Dragon upgrade, and get a Brand New "Like" camera back... ;)
 
Great! I've had many occasions during an interview where I stop operating and stare at the temperature gauge praying it won't go any higher, and......... KAPLOOEEEE the vacuum cleaner fan turns on, and I turn as RED as the name of the camera.

The sensor is one heat source, the other source for heat is the Core that goes up to 72C now. More data to process means more heat IMHO. The top fan (if they do it like in our disign) is the one that will eat up a lot of the Core heat.

Based on what I'm extrapolating from that graph the internal fan will produce around 26dB-A for takes longer than 12 minutes. And about 18/19dB-A for the first 3 minutes.

The variance between 4 minute through say 12 minutes takes seems to be around 3/4dB-A.

So in real world speak. Pretty damn quiet. Folks who do long takes or say interviews won't have that audio spike when the fans kick in. Audio rejoices.

This is really great. Shhhhhh. Quiet on the set.
 
Gotta love these kind of posts at 2:30 AM! (I should stay up later - all the good stuff happens then.)

As far as new fan designs... Apple has made a big deal about the fans in their lap tops being asymmetrical (blade sizes vary) which, apparently varies the pitch and makes the fan quieter and "reduces tonal impact." I wonder if the new design incorporates something along those lines.
