Epic Fan Speed / Sound Algorithms.

So our great engineers have finally finished the new algoritms for smart control of the fans.. and the results are pretty impressive.

Right now as you know in Auto mode, the camera will heat up and heat up and heat up during long takes, and then when the trigger temperature hits the fans suddenly blast at full speed and usually ends up scaring the hell out of the operator and pissing off the sound guy.

The new algorithm constantly monitors temperature and fan speed and starts quieter than the existing quiet setting for the first few minutes and then slowly steps up fan speed up as temperature increases the longer the take goes.. and maintains the camera temperature in doing so indefinitely while still keeping well under 30db. You can tweak that target point as needed in case your sound guy prefers a more consistent speed for a certain duration etc.

Expect this in the next big dot release firmware, and the algorithms will also include control of the new quieter top grill fan and the new front fan we will be showing at NAB.

Good news indeed with better fan control and a new front fan and top grill combined with a lower power consumption Dragon chip we will hopefully see the Epic get a new nickname and I can dump the "Hairdryer." Would love to see some actual Db figures on how much quitter the MX chip is with the new front fan and top grill ????
