  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC accessories from ActionProducts

My action product setup with the lcd and israeli arm. Better solutions to come for the EVF.

this setup wouldn`t work for a whole day of shooting, but for a quick photograph it might feel ok...

I wasn't trying to trash Action Products, just exploring if there is any system out there made by anyone, including Red, that is comfortable. I'm not buying a $50,000+ system for a "quick photograph." I can't see anyone lasting more than 20 minutes holding a set up like this.

We will have more pictures and videos at one point of how flexible and modular this ShoulderMount is. This is just one of hundreds of ways you can configure this ShoulderMount. Notice that in this picture there are 12 inch 19mm Rods used. If you used 18 inch rods and adjusted the shoulder pad it could make it more comfortable for a long day of use. Bottom-line, like ALL of our products, we made this ShoulderMount to be fully modular and based on industry standards so it works well not just for the EPIC but for all professional camera configurations.

Thank you and stay tuned for more updates!

Hey guys, so I've been lucky enough to test drive some of the cool gear of ActionProducts, and all I can say is: I love it! Here's a quick look at 3 of their products: the BridgePlate, Riser and 15mm RodMount Lite. Oh, and their rods are in the pics, too. I've also purchased their shoulder mount system, and I have to say it's really cool, very flexible, comfortable. With the camera set up like this, you can go from tripod to handheld in no time. Simply slide off the camera, slide in the shoulder mount with the Arri Adapter plate and you're ready to go. I'll post some pictures of it soon, gotta run right now... All I wanted to say is: go buy their stuff, it's great! :)

Are you EPIC X ready??

Think you're ready? Think again, and check out our EPIC accessories!

Be sure to take a look at the original thread to keep up with the EPIC craze!

Will it be possible to use the action products audio riser in combination with the red pro module? I am thinking of always just leaving it on the Epic weather or not I am using the Red Pro Audio Module so that I can just remove the Pro Module if I want to go lightweight.

Justin, how much is the battery plate module thingy going to cost? I don't remember seeing a price for it.

Hey Justin, do you guys make any Arri standard 15mm studio camera support or is it all 19mm stuff?

We used to, but no longer offer it at this time. I will let you know if we do. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Rob, as RED doesn't give any detailed information on there products, I can't answer 100% yes or no on this guestion. However I don't see why it shouldn't keep working when someone has a pro module, but we will have to wait and see. I am sorry that I couldn't give you a better answer.

Matthew, I don't have any more information on price or availability at the moment. I will post an update when I have a better answer for you!

Hi Justin, and thanks for your constant presence on these boards.

Some questions about Actionproduct's gear :

  • I still don't get how the cable fits on the top plate and the power distributor... if you could post pictures with the actual cables (?)

  • With the I/O pro module release, can we expect an I/O module Top Plate with the extra lenght of cable to connect it on the power distributor, the Electra?

  • About weight, what will be the total weight of the Top Plate, the hypothetical I/O Top Plate, and the Power box ?

  • Will you make a closed handle that fits on the brain and on the I/O module ? Something solid, not modular at all, and with the space needed to mount the 5" LCD ?

Your products are really the first I will get with my X. They offer a different path, with an all in one feel over the Red extreme modularity, that I really like.

Think you're ready?

The question is are you ready? You may want to put a disclaimer about which accessories are Epic-X compatible and which are not. In case you missed it. The Epic-X body has been redesigned. Also the Epic-M's can be sent in to Red later to upgrade to the new design.

Well... I can't say that you have inconvenienced me. I am just desperate to find a solution that fits with all my other accessories. There are some products you've shown that I am interested in buying but I have to wait untill an EPIC-X is in my hands. I really don't want to buy accessories I cant use. Maybe you or RED, or some other manufacturer will start providing 15mm Arri studio 100mm spacing components. One can only hope. Thanks for the reply though.

For 15mm stuff, I would recommend looking at Brook/Viewfactor, Element Technica, and Wooden Camera. Everyone, though, is waiting to see what the exact dimensions of the Epic X will be so they can tweak their "M" stuff.

It's only the top plate rear mounting threads that have changed compared to Epic-M, so looks like it will require only a small modification to our EPIC TopPlate. We'll deal with this quick and painlessly, trust me:)

Thank you for your interest in our products! Below is some information addressing your questions.

Q: "I still don't get how the cable fits on the top plate and the power distributor... if you could post pictures with the actual cables (?)"
A: The EPIC TopPlate comes with 3 cables, making it ready to go right out of the box. This plate utilizes a power D-TAP cable, HDSDI BNC cable, and a 4 pin LEMO cable. This allows for the unit to work standalone, or along side our upcoming EPIC Power Distributor with V-Mount/Gold Mounts.

If used standalone, you would just distribute the 3 cords accordingly…

  1. D-TAP with any industry standard battery
  2. HD-SDI BNC connecting into HDSDI port on the EPIC
  3. 4 pin LEMO connecting in the SYNC port on the EPIC
When used with our EPIC Power Distributor, all the cords will be neatly tucked away.

Here is some more information on what functionality is brought to our EPIC TopPlate utilizing the 4 pin LEMO in the EPIC’s sync port…
“A 4-pin LEMO connector supports shutter synchronization input, GPI, timecode and genlock signals.
The shutter Sync Input signal acts as an immediate response hardware trigger to commence a scan. This is useful for motion control and other applications where the camera is driven by a master timing device. When using SYNC as the camera shutter timing reference, fine shutter start time timing (SHUTTER PHASE) is disabled, make any timing adjustments at the external SYNC generator itself.
Alternatively, this input pin may be used as a GPI (General Purpose Input) trigger, whose function is programmed in the USER KEYS menu. Default is Record Start / Stop.
A SMPTE timecode input signal provides a frame accurate time stamp for each frame of recorded video.
A Video Genlock input signal may be used as a vertical interval reference signal for applications that require precise synchronization between cameras, such as 3D and live broadcasts. When using GENLOCK as the camera shutter timing reference, fine shutter start time timing (SHUTTER PHASE) may be adjusted.” From RED EPIC Operation Guide.

At this time we don't have pictures of these cords, but I will look into getting them for you. In the mean time here's a picture where our EPIC utilizes the TopPlate and V-Mount/Gold Mount, but also shows our other accessories. (all accessories will be anodized to match the EPIC in their finished version!)

A: I am not 100% sure of all the details of this so I am going to look into this some and get back to you shortly.

Thank you for your questions and interest in our products.

  • Hi Justin,
I really like the designs of the ShoulderMount that you have posted pics of so far. It looks like there is still no estimated shipping date or way to order one. Did I miss it, or are things still being designed/tweaked?

It's only the top plate rear mounting threads that have changed compared to Epic-M, so looks like it will require only a small modification to our EPIC TopPlate. We'll deal with this quick and painlessly, trust me:)

The Epic-X top plate seems to have a different hot air vent profile too.

We will be shipping the first top plates from tomorrow on. Will post some photos. New is that the power connector is a universal 2 pin Lemo connector. Orders made until now will be shipping with a short lemo/D-Tap cable. Other cables will be available. Plates that ship at this time are for Epic-M. The Epic-X versions will go in production next week and should be available within 3 weeks. The plates come with 2x 2pin, 1x 4 pin (as on REDone) Lemo connectors and 1x 3pin fischer (12V) connector. Next to the HD-SDI, Timecode etc. BNC's and plenty of threads of course ... we are fulfilling all preorders at the moment and are taking new orders now.

We now have a limited amount on stock. We will post some new final images tomorrow. Larger quantities should be available within the next 3 weeks.
