  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Elysium - Shot on EPIC

This was a really fun project to have worked on. The leaders of these project are extremely talented and bold. I really understand when Jarred says this is something to be proud of.

THIS is the Summer Film that I am looking forward to the most and Trent is definitely one of the good ones!

I remember people asking for posters of similar ads before. Maybe next time you're making one of these you could acquire the rights for posters too.

Way easier said than done, I am afraid. We have to jump through a multitude of hoops on each one. We cannot even print them as posters here at RED, we buy the standard movie posters like everyone else : )

The posters in the NAB booth looked pretty sweet. I need to buy a few of those for the office.

Was there a higher res version of that ad? When I click on it now, it says something about an expired transfer link. If there was a higher res version, would you mind PMing me and I will give you my email address? Thanks.

oh man, shot with EPIC!!! This movie looks beautiful. Shot on Epic.... haha yeah! I'm excited for August!

I just saw a trailer for this last night. Looks beautiful. And it's all mysterium x. This movie is going to get a lot of Alexa shooters attention. I watched wolverine last night. Is it just me or does the Alexa look boring? The shadows look lifted and flat. The one thing I love most about mysterium-x is that shadows and darks have an extra dimension to them. Just look at Cronenweths work in social network and gwtdt. Both these films lurk in the lower dimensions of dynamic range and there's so much flavor to them. Imagine if he shot with Alexa - what an ugly mess that would be! Shadows would be hollow

Looks outstanding. One of the very few action or scifi trailers that appeal to me, just like District 9. I feel like the story is mostly very submissive to the action and fx in this genre. I can't sit still for 1,5-2 hours without a good story, got no concentration span for that. But I have a pretty good feeling I like the total concept and story of Elysium.

Okay, so let's talk about this.

The potential power of the Epic MX Sensor for Digital Stills captured during principal photography. Is it possible this poster for Elysium is the first still grab taken from principal photography for a movie poster?

It has an Epic feel, smooth yet gritty. Yes, perhaps a Photoshop effect but maybe not? If a photoshop effect, what technique?

It's a great poster, I'd love to hear how it was done.

Medium format digital back camera most likely. As much as it'd be neat to believe it'd be a still frame capture you have to consider the marketing needs for print work, which requires incredibly high resolution for poster prints.

I am with Isaac on that one. This definitively looks like medium format digital.
Last print job of similar caliber I was involved in was asking for files that are 15.000 pixels big.
You can only do this with medium format. The backs go up to 80 mp.

Great Behind the scenes video posted.

I find it really interesting that almost all (if not all) of the handheld shots in this BTS were done with the operators holding on to the mattebox. I'm going to have to try this out.

Works really really great

So in the B-Roll video they show a scene being played back in RCX. How did they get the layout to look like that? Can you move the panes around like that and how if you can?
