  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.17 / IPP2 / April Shipment Update

Gnarly... Scarlet-W is definitely the steal of the group.

IMO it has a LONG way to go before it becomes "competitive" with the C700. (Yes, I am making fun of Canon. :violent5: )

Anyone know if it fixed the sigma 18-35 problems? haven't downloaded firmware yet

I think Jarred said that will be a little while longer. There will be a bug fix release soon for pretty much everything else though.

Rob Anderson found that a lot of those issues went away if you wipe the camera settings before installing the new firmware.

Hard to understand IPP2 until you play with it yourself. The magic really is in the highlights. The camera now processes light more like your eyes do. Love it!

Some problems here:

Beta 6.4.21, the startup takes long time compared with the 6.3.XX (45-50 sec vs. 25-30 sec.).

Roll back to 6.3.98, after wipe, etc. Camera crash during auto-blackshading (Calibration Pass 1) all times, even after hard reset.

I'm forced to stay with the 6.4.21...where auto-blackshading calibration works.

Update... contacted bomb squad and log sent.

Maybe I missed it, but any info on whats up on the NIKON Mount (is that being upgraded, when will the mount be available again?).

As a RED Nikon mount owner, I'm quite disappointed with its performance (it simply doesn't achieve sharp focus, sometimes stop hunting with still a completely out off-focus image).

I had fill a ticket to the repair team, and after some e-mails exchange the last one says:

"Correct back focus will affect focus, especially when achieving infinity. It looks like there isn't anything we can do on the hardware end, as this all seems to be working correctly. The auto focus, lens support and VR integration is constantly being worked on by our software team to help better our Nikon lens support."

(Note - The issue with the autofocus exists no matter what lens I use and it's not constant, so it's not question of adjusting the back focus.)

Besides that, it's getting more frequent that I have to reboot before my Nikon mount can control the lens aperture. In the beginning I never had a problem controlling lens f/stop, but now not all the times it works as it should be.

Probably not the right thread, but since RED is improving cameras firmware, when can Nikon users expect an improvement in functionality of the Nikon mounts?

Thanks!

Are you talking about auto focus? Have you compared against Canon mount? I have never found auto focus to be useful. DSLRs have much more advanced auto focus techniques.

Yes, I know. I don't ask for a fast autofocus like a DSLR's phase-detection system when the photographer is using the optical viewfinder. I just need an accurate one (I think RED uses contrast detection, like DSLRs when using the live-view mode or compact cameras) so I can trust it in stationary subjects.

Mine simply hunts for focus (even outdoors, at sunlit subjects) and after a while stops (sometimes in focus - on rare occasions - but most of the times with a more or less out-of-focus result). I can't compare with a Canon mount, but as far as I remember from a friend of mine, he says it's Canon mount autofocus works faultlessly.

I justo want to be able to trust autofocus in very bright situations (when due to bright ambient light conditions I have a hard time manual focusing using the monitor) or when I want to use the rack focus function (for it to work properly, the camera must first be able to accurately autofocus at the various subjects at different distances).

After all, even the most inexpensive point-and-shoot camera have a trusty autofocus (even if it's slow, doesn't matter to me). Don't understand what such an expensive camera like RED with a very well engineered lens mount system, can't achieve at least the same autofocus reliability.

I've just installed the Beta firmware, so I need to test it again with all the Nikon lens to see if something had improved or not.

Hi friends, i can't import 3dluts in RAVEN , latest firmware 6.4.21 with this setting Legacy -> (RWGRGB - Log3g10)
Menu -> Image -> 3dlut (missing)

In Scarlet-w is ok, Raven is missing this.
