  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why Epic can not SYNC when HDRX is on?

When I shot with HDRX on, it seemed the EPIC can never sync to my AMBIENT LOCKIT at any FPS, which means I can not shot 3D clip with HDRX, is there anything wrong? HDRX is so cool.

Also, it seemed I can only SYNC at 24FPS and 48FPS, other FPS can not work well (GEN yellow) no matter what TC and SYNC I set. Anyone successfully set to other FPS like 60? By what SYNC instruments?

Is it because HDRX has 2 different shutter speed in one frame? Anyway, HDRX can provide such a surreal feeling, I hope RED can add that function when SYNC, just Sync the A track will be OK.

There are actually a lot of frame rates that work in 3D. You can go up to 90FPS at 5K WS. The settings can be a bit complicated however. Back in March I did some testing, there may be additional frame rates that work now, I haven't checked since then, but here is a google doc that lists the working frame rates.

Exactly why HDR won't work in 3D is a RED question. If that process works independently in each camera, I'm not sure why it can't happen in sync.

Thank you so much Jason, U R really a Goodman:P! This information is very helpful. Although I immediately tested and found completely different result, now I know I can try and find the workable combinations. On my Epic and SYNC, 24TimeBase and 24\36\48\72FPS can be very easily SYNCed for lots of resolutions, even I use some wired SYNC/TC integer number, all other choices rarely work....

This issue is worth escalating. Seems like Magic Motion could bring back blown occlusions in fast-moving scene elements. Could help take the curse off of motion blur induced occlusion rivalry.

Has anyone bugged with Red??

I think there may be some tough tech issue they need to handle, but actually they can provide a simpler solution, SYC the A, leave the X as it has no sync, since we usually just use X for those too high lights, a little bit unSync will not be bother.
