  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.17 / IPP2 / April Shipment Update

Any plans to have an option to view playback with a custom LUT, It's a shame to review in log.
Also An option to record with or without LUT baked in into ProRes/DNXHD

thanks

R3D playback now works with custom creative LUTs in Full IPP2. We're looking at options for what we can do for ProRes as recoding that anything other than log under IPP2 is a non-trivial task.

I can report what is either a bug, or a fine tune needed: when formatting the mag and choosing UDF, if you power cycle the camera and go to format the next mag, it defaults back to FAT32. Shouldn't it stay with the choice you made last?
And also, as a feature "polish" request: when adding shortcuts to the settings window, after you choose a shortcut and go to the next window, could the drop down menu start from the last shortcut assigned? Then you don't have to scroll through all the options you didn't select before.

maybe more a question for Jarred, what they can do for myself, as scarlet-w user, limited to IPP1 in-camera.
Unless you are recording the SDI/HDMI to an external recorder, I don't see the problem with IPP1 in camera. Sure, I would love to have IPP2 in camera myself, but I don't. Just trying to say don't feel to bad about it. Post is where it matters and your Scarlet and my Weapon will both get full access to IPP2 in post and it...is...awesome! :)

I would suggest you give DragonColor (1, not 2) a try in camera along with BT.1886. This will give you a nice looking image that won't suffer from the out of gamut blue/purple clippy images, which are still not as bad as the O.G. Clippy from Microsoft Office.

Another option is to use RWG w/ Log3G10 and apply one of the many LUTs that have been released. You an pick the contrast and highlight roll-off you like. This method may impact the tools, so do some testing for sure.

Honesty, I wish the on camera image was black & white so people would focus on composition and not worry so much about color on their 5" display.

@Graeme, here is a feature request for the RCX team. Add a calibration LUT slot like Resolve, Scratch, Transkoder, Baselate, etc... all have. This will sit between the output transform and the display. Output transform would convert from your space into a nice industry standard like 709 and then the calibration LUT would convert from the real 709 into the displays true color space that they "claim" is 709 to produce something that IS 709 or as close as you can get with that display.

If you have an OMOD, you can use the LUT in the OMOD as the calibration LUT and the LUT in the Red camera as the output transform LUT. This makes a wonderful, no, powerful, combo.

It's late and I have rambled enough. Hopefully I don't have Clippy nightmares tonight. :) Only thing worse was Microsoft Bob. Seriously, what were they thinking? :-)

That's promising. The email I got from WC did not have that last sentence.

Maybe you didn't get the entire email, or you relayed it incorrectly, but this is what Wooden Camera replied to me. Read the end part, it sounds very promising.

"The 6.4 firmware available on the RED website is a beta version. Given this status, even minor bugs may still be lingering, and exercising caution is recommended. The battery data is not presented on this BETA, but on the current release build you should not run into any issues when using the Cable-less mount. This is a firmware compatibility issue which will be resolved in RED's official release build."

How do I send in feedback on the beta build...?

Some times my 7" display flickers like crazy or have a spit focus right in the middle - it doesn't affect the recorded media only on screen. And when changing from magnify to full view it freezes the brain and I have to reboot.

Thanks for looking into ProRes Graeme. For most workflows, I think having the ProRes able to reflect creative decisions made on set is pretty critical to it being a viable workflow. Very much would like to see this get baked in before IPP2 comes out of beta.

Thanks for this amazing work!

When are the new prices coming out? Today? Also the SW is getting something new? :)

My speculation is that the Raven moves to at least $8,995 and the S-W moves to $12,495.

Jarred's Facebook says new build in a couple days and 4K prores for magnesium and scarlet-w

So my camera is actually increasing in value as I use it? That's new. I am definitely fine with it. :)

Ha, I was thinking the same thing I have had my Raven for almost a year now and every time I use it I feel like I got a steal. That being said the SW getting 4K pro res has me thinking....
