DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.17 / IPP2 / April Shipment Update

Hi, my friend Epic Dragon won't accept firmware update from 6.3.27 and above :(
Tried everything: Hard reset, ssd module change, lcd change, lens mount change - no effects
Camera able to downgrade to anything below 6.3.27, each time firmware update process perform successfully but wont go above 6.3.27

I was really liking medium contrast/highlight roll-off 4, but now need to test again. I'm quite curious to see how "very soft" looks. Will it be too much?

Like others, having issues with the WC Cable-less AB plate and no battery info.

With Sigma 18-35 f1.8 on Red Canon mount, I don't see lens data, and menu freezes. So strange.

Hope new version of Resolve is on the way to support this new version of IPP2

Might mean that you haven't been allocated yet. That said, my own recent experience suggests that contacting your Bomb Squad rep to let him/her know your upgrade plans might be to your advantage.

Any update of the Scarlet-W to Epic-W upgrade. Still no news from my october 11 order.

I have a bunch of important shoots the next couple of weeks, so holding off on upgrading given the problems people seem to be having, but in the meantime....

I've always just brought my footage straight into Premiere (and worry about changing red settings later), but it seems, now more than ever, that there's an argument for "processing" each "reel" in RCXP first.

Is there somewhere a good walkthrough of what that process looks likes. Is it something you can do in a batch for a whole mag, or on a clip-by-clip basis?

Been playing around with the REDCINE X 50 demo and must say this is very impressive.
It once again shows just how malleable REDCODE can be (and I'm using this on RED ONE MX footage).

This new IPP2 is like going from OS 9 to OS X.

Appreciate the work that went into this.

Will the Post>Look>Effects return (with alchemy, unsharp, high pass sharpening, 1D & 3D LUTs, Levels, etc)?

In RCX the "Post : Look : Effects" panel has been renamed to Post : Image : Effects. It no longer contains 3D LUT but Levels, Alchemy Group, Unsharp Mask, High Pass Sharpen, Film, and 1D Lut are still in it.

If it isn't visible, you may need to enable it. To enable it right-click on any panel header (like "Look Manager" or "Image : Primary") and in the pop-up menu put a check mark next to the "Post : Image : Effects" panel name.

Awesome dude, thanks!

I'm experiencing the same issue minus the freeze part. I can set the iris by typing an fstop setting in the advanced menu rhough, so I decided not to roll back.

The very soft rolloff looks great so far, I'll see if I have time tonight to pull a few examples, this time not with a black light and a bioluminescent scorpion as the only sources of light.

Why is 3D LUT gone from redcine x?

I've just been playing with the new redcine-x on old weapon footage, basically outputting old footage to prores 422hq with the new pipeline. Basically ... WOW ... also by just filming the "old" way and outputting prores from redcine with ipp2 it doesn't break any of my current workflow yet gives a more "harmonious" image (it's hard to put in words what the change is, but for example a painting shot then going through ipp2, the image feels more like I'm there looking at it).

Anyone had issues with UDF and OS X Sierra? Recorded a few test clips today and the MiniMag loads to the desktop ok, but no clips appear in RC-X, if I open the MiniMag in finder I see the .RDM in there, but if I click it to see the contents it just disappears! Tried all the usual tricks in MacOS to fix this. Switched the camera back to FAT32 and the new batch of test clips behave correctly...

File a support ticket for that one.

But first,

try this page,

and do each FW upgrade in succession.

Hi Raphael,
I’m sorry to hear that your friend is having trouble with their EPIC DRAGON.

The Technical Support team at RED would like to help you resolve this issue. Are you aware if your friend is already in contact with RED Support? What is your friend's name and/or the Serial Number of the EPIC DRAGON?

If your friend is not already in contact with RED Support, please submit a Technical Support request on support.red.com and attach the log file from this camera. We will forward the log file information to our Engineers for further analysis.

Thanks.

This is a short term situation. Once Red releases an SDK, with IPP2 support in it, then your favorite app will integrate it and you won't need to use RCX to pre-process your footage. This will always occur when the tech is new. Even once a new SDK is released, it takes some 3rd parties longer than others to integrate it. Assimilate Scratch and DaVinci Resolve will most likely be first within a week or two of release. Adobe will take longer.

What’s up with this "Unsupported module/s" and "shutting down" messages popping up since the upgrade to Beta Build v6.4.17 on our Epic-W? Also if you have a Mini-Mag (with previously captured media) inserted at startup, the camera goes ape and 7 out of 10 times, generate the same message. Rebooting without the Mini-Mag solves that problem.

However, things start to get better after a reboot or two. This happens a lot on cold startups. Did not have any of these issues prior to the upgrade.

Love the full integration of IPP2 for Helium sensors. Colors look good and natural. At night, headlights of oncoming vehicles does not bloom or over power the sensor. Gradual fall-off on highlights. When transitioning from bright to dark areas, camera instantaneously adjust with minimal (manual) iris riding. There is a lag on menu items on RED LCD touch monitor. This happens mostly when a RED MINI-MAG (480 GB) is getting closer to 60% or more of its capacity.

Awesome update on the color front.

I'm also getting "unsupported module" errors with the side handle so I can't keep this build unfortunately but will keep an eye on it when it's more stable/out of beta.
