  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.17 / IPP2 / April Shipment Update

Also have another Redcine question and it'll apply to other grading when implemented. Wondering if anyone knows the answer. I've created a bunch of personal LUTs in Davinci or another program and is a super quick color correction or starting point when needed. But the thing is when using the new pipeline I'm having trouble finding a starting point that is like the legacy images. I created these LUTs to work with RedLogFilm and they also work with legacy's RedWideGamut + Log3G10, but with the new pipeline they're a lot more contrasty when the LUT is applied. I can't find that log starting point. I've tried different output transforms, but the best seems to be a None - Output Tone Map, and Very Soft - Highlight Roll Off. That gets me close to log starting point, but let me know if I'm even doing the process right. Ha. Or if there is one button to just make the image log.

Have a ticket open with Red support on the Wooden Camera Cable-less battery adapter and not seeing battery information with the new firmware.

Red asked if I had reached out to Wooden Camera to see if they had any information. I did and got only this disappointing CYA message:
"The 6.4 firmware available on the RED website is a beta version, as you acknowledge. Given this status, even minor bugs may still be lingering, and exercising caution is therefore recommended. With the current release build you should not run into any issues when using the Cable-less mount."

Will the DRX feature ever return for older camera R3Ds or is that feature obsolete with the new IPP2 debayer?

Old DRX is obsolete. But there's a new improved replacement built into IPP2 that doesn't need a user control. That means it's always on and always working.

There's a "one button" to make it RWG/Log3G10 - check in the export options. There's a pull-down menu to select either the full pipeline or just primary raw log output.

What’s up with this "Unsupported module/s" and "shutting down" messages popping up since the upgrade to Beta Build v6.4.17 on our Epic-W? Also if you have a Mini-Mag (with previously captured media) inserted at startup, the camera goes ape and 7 out of 10 times, generate the same message. Rebooting without the Mini-Mag solves that problem.

However, things start to get better after a reboot or two. This happens a lot on cold startups. Did not have any of these issues prior to the upgrade.

Love the full integration of IPP2 for Helium sensors. Colors look good and natural. At night, headlights of oncoming vehicles does not bloom or over power the sensor. Gradual fall-off on highlights. When transitioning from bright to dark areas, camera instantaneously adjust with minimal (manual) iris riding. There is a lag on menu items on RED LCD touch monitor. This happens mostly when a RED MINI-MAG (480 GB) is getting closer to 60% or more of its capacity.

I am still having the same issue, it started to work for a while, today i went out do shoot some test and after 30 min unsopported media message came up, i can not get rid of it since regardless mini mag in or out, Only solution is to remove the side handle. I also lost the punch in zoom finction while recording. Non of these issues existed before upgrade.

As Graeme has posted, LUTs are usually designed with a known starting point. If your LUT is based on RLF, it will need to be done to work with Log3G10. If it is a 3D LUT, it will also need to know the starting colorspace. It is possible that a tool can twist this for you. I am not sure if Lattice has added support for RWG/3G10 yet.

Hi Peter, can you explain? The 1:1 mode, while recording, has never worked, as far as I recall. Once recording starts, it always goes back to full resolution (that you have set). It is in their release notes:

OPERATIONAL NOTES SPECIFIC TO BUILD V6.3.78

Image Magnify is available during preview only.

If this is not what you are talking about, I apologize.

So it looks like the freezing only occurs with the sigma 18-35 "Photo" version on there.
With my zeiss ZF it's all good.

Hi Jalmy,

The Technical Support team has been coordinating with our Engineers to try and replicate the issues that you're describing. Could you confirm the specific Sigma 18-35 model and mount type that you're having trouble with?

That seems to be right, I've got the sigma 18-35 photo and response time is pretty slow on the touch screen. I go to my sigma 50-100 photo and it's significantly better. Even the wireless focus on foolcontrol is way more responsive with the 50-100.

Hi Jan,

Could you also confirm the specific Sigma 18-35 model and mount type that you're having trouble with?

Hi everyone,

i'm having trouble integrating the ipp2 into my system. I figured to check the "show advance settings" in red cine-x pro (build 42) to be able to select the color space (red widegamut) and the gamma curve (log 3g10), but i can't seem to see these settings in premiere pro (CC 2017 02).
In the master settings of the clip, i neither see 3log10 nor redwidegamut.

Any suggestions/advice?

Thanks in advance!

I know someone else that is having trouble with the Sigma Art primes. (Canon mount) He sent a log to red UK. Is there a better place for him to send the log file?

Thanks Stacey, I remembered using it before, but you are correct. it is not supposed to.

It won't happen until Adobe adds the new SDK.

I don't think this has been reported yet, but it appears that the DSMC BATTERY BELT CLIP works intermittently with this beta build, it gives a "Unsupported Module - Please disconnect unsupported module" error and the only option is to shutdown and use a different module for power.

We are using an EPIC-W -> DSMC2 BASE EXPANDER -> DSMC BATTERY BELT CLIP.

Adolfo,

I get the error when the Camera is Cold & booted up (no clip on my rig).

I'll send Red BS the following :

Menu > Settings > Maintenance > System Status > Attached Modules

So they can correlate what the cause might be.

Thanks for the tip!

The issue is intermittent, I eventually got the camera going but I sent the log file to Engineering in any case; I'm sure it's something simple they can tweak in the next update.

Hi Brad,

I already rolled my Scarlet-W back to v6.3.78, but on v6.4.17 I experienced freezing with the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon, with a RED DSMC Canon Mount. When I replaced the lens with the body cap I didn't see freezing

Damn, that's impressive.
Thank you. Makes life easier.
