Wow, I thought Matthew exclusively shoots film until I saw on "Noah" IMDb "ARRIRAW Codex" as negative format along with 35mm. Curious if he's gonna capture "Pele" in mixed formats too.

Its not the high profile stuff.. its all about people.

Yes Michael Bay and David fincher are big dogs.. but Bay spent alot of time with us on making some of our new accessories work better , And Fincher comes in almost every single week and helps with various pieces of development.

John Marchant is in that first 3 not because he is a big name, but because he has donated a ton of time working on the Monochrome and with Graeme on the underwater colorimetry and various other things leading up to the Dragon.

These are the guys that don't just make money using the tools.. they give up time from their incredibly busy schedules to help us make the tools better.. Everyone wins when that happens. We don't pay any of these guys anything, and they all buy their own cameras, so letting them use the cameras they help develop right out of the gate is the least we can do.

Matthew Libatique is another great example. Yes, he is a big dog, but The new exposure tools that give you 50% grey along with sensor clip and lows was developed by him. The guy is always shooting but yet he comes in on his down days and spends hours and hours with us to make things better.

Every one of these cameras you see going out early has a similar story. So don't feel bad if your number is low or you think you should be next and you see someone else out there swinging around a Dragon... its the only way we get to reward the guys that really make a difference and push us forward.. ultimately making the camera that you do end up getting that much better.

So when you see Guys like Phil , or Evin, or Toia get bumped up later next month, it's because they deserve a little nod. We love you all.. and wish we could do everyone at the same time, but we just havn't figured out how to do that yet :)

I love this so much about RED. It's yet another reason why they have set themselves apart from the camera companies.

When people are truly passionate and find ways to give back to RED and the community surrounding it, all by working into their busy schedules and sometimes even turning down good paying work, it pays dividends to not only the rest of us, but RED sees this and rewards them. I encourage anyone new to RED to embrace this. Find a way to get involved.

RED has redefined many business practices in the most refreshing ways. Let's hope other companies learn from their example.

Jarred, thanks for all the opportunities you have offered along the way, and well done!

As someone who is going to "officially" join the RED family very soon, and finally OWN a RED camera (within the next 6 weeks), I can't tell you how much I love reading this post. One of my fave's. The collaborative spirit in the community is fantastic.

Cannot wait to see what Fincher et. al. do with Dragon. Perhaps he will shoot his next picture with practicals only.

As much as I am Fincher fanboy, I hope Dragon would seduce Soderbergh back to shooting moving images. Steven prefers to shoot with as little cine lights as possible and looks like Dragon delivers on "natural" shooting side with at least one stop in highlights and two in shadows. I've read about his rumored period projects (miniseries) for HBO/Cinemax. Fingers crossed.

Hi John,
Congrats on your new Dragon, have fun.

Congrats John....

Enjoy your DRAGON....

Finally home this evening.

Today was an interesting and exciting day. We got to see the newest firmware build and production ready Dragon in action. Stable like a rock and looking great. Took a bit of a flight on a steadicam even.

A few BTS stills. Shot 6K 5:1 and 10:1 24fps and 48fps. Not my project, but an interesting test under these saturated lighting conditions and Dragon held everything nice and tidy.

After today I pretty much can't wait to sink my teeth into this camera and shoot some crazy stuff. It's looking real good. I have yet to come across somebody who thought otherwise. It's a whole different game now.

Yesterday I was asked by longtime cinematographer if I had unlimited resources to shoot a project would I go with 35mm?
My answer was: I would gladly offer 1 million $ to Red to get Dragon tomorrow and shoot the project with it.
Yeepee I yeee mf (I am sure this is incorrect spelling of Bruce Willis hype) :)))

Brilliant !! You're even early this time :-)

Really can't wait ! It feels like waiting for the Red One and for the MX upgrade and for the Epic all again ! But even better. Can't wait. Seriously.

It's the middle of the night, and my brain is buzzing with Dragonlust! Can't sleep, can't think about anything else, can't wait until I am able to walk the upgrade path. I'm super excited for those of you like Phil and Toia who will be getting your Dragons soon...they are richly deserved! So many things I want to try...brain might explode thinking about the possibilities...must be patient...
