  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Time for an update.

As we continue trickling out Dragons to the world, our engineers continue to push the envelope.. This week we made a pretty major breakthrough in calibration and sensor tweaking ( both hardware and software and color science ) and the improvements are meaningful.

We also got a bit lucky and slipped HDR-X back in as well when nobody was looking, which wasn't due till the end of the year. Dragons out there will need to come back for the upgrade. HDR-X was a tough one.. not just an on/off switch.. so the engineers deserve a bit of love from you hardcore HDR-X guys out there that wanted it back.

Our next round of sensors will be rolling out December 1st. This batch is much bigger than the last one, but unfortunately this does not mean everyone is going to be getting Dragons for Christmas.... The line is long and we can't make them as fast as we wish we could.

Carbon Dragons are the one exception.. Those ship a few weeks out after new orders. I know some of you will scream bloody murder over the Carbon Dragons jumping in line. but those, by nature of materials, run down a completely different manufacturing path and are built on demand with their own allocated sensors, just like the Epic-M's were when we started building those.

All Carbon Dragons shipped from Friday on will have the new hardware and software calibration as well as HDR-X active.


This is the order we will continue to roll out :

  • CARBON DRAGON -New Carbon Dragon orders are manufactured and shipped on their own schedule. 2-3 weeks after order.


  • PRIORITY 1: “EPIC-M DRAGON / Early Adopter / Purchased EPIC-X Within 30 Days of NAB” Upgrades*


  • PRIORITY 2.1: “EPIC-M DRAGON New Camera Orders: After all owners of “EPIC-M / Early Adopter / Purchased EPIC-X Within 30 Days of NAB” have been notified they are eligible to send in cameras for upgrade*, new EPIC-M DRAGON orders will begin to be processed.


  • PRIORITY 2.2: EPIC-X DRAGON Upgrades: After all owners of “EPIC-M / Early Adopter / Purchased EPIC-X Within 30 Days of NAB” have been notified they are eligible to send in cameras for upgrade*, EPIC-X DRAGON upgrades will begin to be processed.**


  • PRIORITY 3: SCARLET DRAGON Upgrades: After all owners with EPIC-X DRAGON upgrade pre-orders have been notified their cameras are eligible for upgrade, SCARLET DRAGON upgrade orders will begin to be processed.


  • PRIORITY 4: EPIC-X DRAGON New Camera Orders:Date to be able to order is TBD.


  • PRIORITY 5: SCARLET to EPIC-X DRAGON Trade-ins: Will begin being processed once EPIC-X new camera orders are shipping.

* Refers to pre-orders placed during the exclusive "EPIC-M / Early Adopter / Purchased EPIC-X Within 30 Days of NAB” ordering window. Remember, this was between Monday AM and Thursday AM of NAB 2013 where only those customers who qualified could place upgrade or new EPIC-M DRAGON pre-orders.

** Since BOMB SQUAD has been getting a lot of calls on this, Priority 2.2 is where EPIC-M DRAGON / Early Adopter upgrades would be processed if not part of the "EPIC-M / Early Adopter / Purchased EPIC-X Within 30 Days of NAB” ordering window. No priority between EPIC-X and EPIC-M at this level, orders will be processed by date/time stamp.

Is there a date estimation for epic x upgrades? After the 1st most likely?

Give those Engineers a BIG hug on my behalf... DRAGON already is all that I ever wanted in a Camera, but I most welcome the HDR-X which I'll put to use in a series of new AMAZING project planned in some of the world's most stunning locations... So yeah... Please do give them a BIG one for me...

But, what I'll do for them and the rest of the "AMAZING" RED Team, as we were discussing at RED STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD, once your Cafeteria is fully operational again and I am back in Town, I'll spend a day cooking for every one...


LASAGNA and TIRAMISÙ... Of course... I do not give a shit how much I'll sweat my behind off, they deserve it... ;)

Ok cool gives me some time to make some other purchases. Don't wanna be caught with my pants down. Well I got my epic x on feb 14th. Would be nice to get it less than a year after. Hoping for jan. That would really start the new year off right.

I realize the majority of efforts are focused on Epic's right now, but have there been any further developments on how Dragon is going in its transition to Scarlet?

I'm one of those HDRx lovers.

I can see how few stops of protection with the new dynamic range found in Dragon can really effect outdoors shooting in particular. I have dirty secret plans for it. Thanks for the hard work on getting it implemented. I know it was initially off the road map for Dragon, but it's another feature that literally nobody else out there has. There's so much usage potential there that I think will be showcased over the next year.


I really can't wait to see the new advancements in calibration and color. Really exciting stuff. I'm already loving the look of the material from earlier builds, but it sounds like you guys have been able to add to that "goodness". I'm pretty damn psyched about that.


Sounds like there's a batch of Carbon Dragons about to take flight too. I know a handful of people who can't wait to get them.
 
Since i have paid in full for a long time now to upgrade my Epic M to dragon along with a red rocket x card can i at least get a free dragon cap when my Dragon finally ships? I have been very patient and i am getting sick of people ringing me asking me has my dragon turned up yet!

I need a little love Jarred as i flew all the way from Australia to see NAB and being teased with the dragon's being built infront of my eyes.

Or how about just shipping me my Red rocket X card to keep me hanging!
 
Just a thought.... Is there anyway i can trade my other Epic X in for a Carbon Dragon as well?

Yea, pretty comical! It was your BTS pics from your It's Just Paint shoot that whipped me into a frenzy! I'm sure my posts shooting with the Dragon I have on hand now is similarly inspiring some emptying of wallets!

And so the Dargon roll-out snowballs on!
