  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon Update + A.D.D.

Hopefully they will add "Export ADD frames from Markers" functionality - but, that should be easy to do with REDLINE as soon as we have a version that supports ADD

that's the plan...

A.D.D will be in the next next release of REDLine for motion export ( not the release coming monday, but the release after that )

Just remember... you better have a movie or 10 to watch while you wait for a motion clip with A.D.D to render out.. its some serious processing, over and over and over and over again.

Hi Jarred,

Will the RRX help the processing speed, in this or future updates?

Thank you very much

I like the sound sod this, despite the waiting times... Which is to be understood with such processing involved... At list for now, we know things will get faster with time... ;)

All I can say is that I am very excited to be able to have it to render out some of my Venetian Dragon piece with it, and I guess if I get lucky I might even have it in time to render out the hall Short Film with it... ;)

specially when we got ADD (:

Ready!

If I had to field a guess.. and don't hold me to it.. I would say we should jump into the second priority group at the end of March / first week of April. Remember, the first group was the EPIC-M owners and early RED adoptors that had the opportunity to order upgrades those first few days of NAB last year.
Jarred, the process seems to have stalled. On behalf of all the guys who don't send you emails every day, may I politely ask you to update us on this timetable.

Nothing has stalled.. everything is running along smoothly. As I said the timeframe in which people can and do send their cameras in for upgrade in is completely out of our control. Some weeks we get a ton in, some weeks we don't. Its controlled by you so it's impossible to make any sort of guess.

The only thing we do have control over is new camera orders, and we might accelerate those options and actually get ahead of schedule on those by separating the new que from the upgrade que.

Just do it! ;)

EDIT: I say that even as I wait in the upgrade queue for my camera to be called in… would just like to see more dragons out there and working so RED can work out all the kinks quicker.

I check my email everyday hoping to see an email about my upgrade since November and deposited all the funds so that i'm ready. So all you guys holding up the line get a move on! :-).

Well, as someone who is in the early adopter group, and ordered my upgrades on April 8th, 2013 at 11:45 AM, I would think I am pretty early in the queue. When I contacted my Bomb Squad rep back in December, he acknowledged my early place in line and said it "would likely be very soon." That was 3 months ago. When I inquired again a couple of weeks ago, I was told there are simply "too many moving factors to make accurate estimations."

I think I speak for most customers with outstanding Dragon upgrade orders that it's frustrating to keep hearing that when Red can very reliably ship out new orders.

You guys had a production line at NAB last year that gave everyone the impression that Dragon upgrades were happening in volume. In this post you indicate that everything is running smoothly and some weeks you get "tons" of Epics in for upgrades.

Have you been shipping thousands of upgrades a month? Or even hundreds? Are you really waiting for that many cameras to come in following notification and that's why things are taking so long? If people aren't sending in their cameras, then can you simply notify more customers to fill the pipeline and let those who delay sending their cameras go back in the queue to follow those who send them in promptly?

The impression a lot of us are getting is that no one has been getting emails for upgrades recently. Meanwhile, those who order Carbon Dragons get them in two weeks or less. It's frustrating to see that if someone has the extra cash to buy a carbon fiber Dragon, they can jump the line ahead of loyal Red users who have been patiently waiting for an upgrade for nearly a year. It seems the priority for sensor allocation is clearly focused on new cameras. But If it speeds things up to decouple the upgrade production line from the carbon line, then by all means, please do it!

Please understand. Like everyone here, I'm trying to be patient. But I run a business. I need to manage cash flow and invest when appropriate to grow my business. I need to upgrade my facility to handle 6K workflows. That means new MacPros, a new SAN, etc. Tens of thousands of dollars. I am ordering lenses that cover 6K in anticipation of Dragon. As CEO, I can't in good conscious make these investments in an organized fashion and manage cash flow if I don't have any sense of delivery time on the very product that is triggering these investments.

Meanwhile, It's great to read about the DXO award, and know that other manufacturers are supporting Dragon workflows, see all the great posts about Dragon from the handful of users who have gotten them, know that your work will benefit from it, have the money in hand but yet… not be able to get your hands on it.

Don't get me wrong. I love your products. I depend on them in my business. I am an outspoken supporter of Red and have been since 2007. I'm excited about you are doing as a company for this industry. I appreciate that it's really hard to do what you do. I want the product you are offering, and greatly appreciate the opportunity to upgrade my cameras. But as a loyal customer and Red supporter, I'd really hate to see Red get its reputation trashed yet again because it can't meet delivery schedules on a product that it touts publicly with great pride.

Please do whatever you can to rectify this situation.

I've booked my hotel for NAB 2014. I sure hope I have my Dragons by then….

Thanks for listening.

After seeing the results on a still image, it will be difficult to not want to use on motion. :)

Like the idea of the "New Queue". ;-)

ADD, worth waiting for…

Agreed. This is a real test of patience.

Please understand we are a business as well. We need to sell product to continue to do everything we do. I know waiting is hard.. but you need to remember that being able to upgrade your cameras is not a right but a privilege. We love all our customers and our supports that have been with us.. thats why we give you guys the option... at a price point that is more of a thank you rather than a business model. If you are suggesting we need to stop all business and wait for everyone to get their upgrades done I will tell you right now that isn't going to happen and I am surprised that you would suggest as such. If you think its fair for us not to allow new customers to RED have any option to be in the family than you are missing the point of why we started this company.

There is no situation to rectify.. As I said all along , and as we did with R1 to Epic, the timeframe is limited by our customer's time tables.. we have been through this before. We are not going to bump people to the back of the line if their camera is on a rental or create some sort of if you miss this week try next week thing.. The logistics and expense of managing that is not in the cards. We are hitting our schedules with the product timelines we can control.

We are really doing something special here with this whole thank you upgrade program, but it looks like you guys are looking at it like it is an obligation.

But thank you, you helped me make up my mind.

We will be opening up new camera orders to new customers ahead of the upgrade line. If our existing customers have lost appreciation for this whole program , then why wouldn't we.

Slightly... rough, I would say...

Jarred, I am way late to the upgrade party…bought a Scarlet after NAB last year, upgraded it to Epic-X in December (thank you so much for the opportunity to do that!!) and placed my order for Dragon as soon as I took delivery of the Epic. I know I am thousands of units from the front of the queue, but I am happy to just have a place in it. Most of us are waiting patiently for the opportunity to upgrade to the finest camera on the planet. I understand how badly everyone wants their Dragon (I want mine too), but please don't penalize everyone for the sake of those who can't control their impatience.

Don't worry Tom. Won't penalize you. Actually..we will upgrade you early. Send me an email. No more rules.

We are all supposed to be in this together. The moment that concept is lost there is no reason to do what we do.
