  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon Update + A.D.D.

Doh ... I forgot to include 'for identical compression rates' :)

Some people will be using a higher frame rate to pull stills out - but also need to deliver 24fps.
An ADD mode with 96fps or 48fps -> 24Hz might therefore be of use.

At this point I guess only RED know what is thrown away as the dragon compression ratio is increased.
My guess is that High frequency details reduces - but the but depth of colour does not (ie colour noise does not markedly increase)

If ADD champions noise reduction, having access to All exposure information the sensor can get, might just trump the compression ratio.

AJ

And I'm speculating that you are totally wrong :)

I speculate that the "optimal" 24fps images using ADD will be a 24fps acquired with the absolute LOWEST possible compression in 6K.

Heh heh heh.. I already forgot what I shot last week :)

heh heh.. I still remember the day you took your Avatar photo Roberto. Seems like a lifetime ago.

I love how Jarred don't remember what he did last week, but remembers interactions with customers. That's the way businesses should be run.

What I am speculating is that recording from OPTION 2 could be used for a superior ADD algorithm.

Reasons
=====
+) 4 x the temporal resolution
+) Access to temporal frames before and after the current frame in OPTION 2 - that do not exist in OPTION 1.

AJ

What you're forgetting is that there is additional readout noise in the shadows. So I agree Option2 would be best in situations where you can clamp the shadows down. But otherwise you'll end up with extra Fixed Noise Pattern noise from the readout.

Getting excited for ADD! Is it the end of the week yet? ;)

Yup Rob and team are getting it ready for release tonight if all goes well. We ended up making a few extra adjustments at the last minute, exited to hear what you guys think.

Added a few little things like an optional UnSharp Mask setting , which is now actually useful since the image after A.D.D. is so much cleaner that you don't end up just sharpening noise.

The little guy on my shoulder who keeps telling me "It's OK, you can wait for Dragon. You don't really NEED Dragon" is about to get his ass kicked methinks.

Motion as well, no?

Thank you very much

The build today will have a still export snapshot button .. motion will come in a later build and in REDLINE.

Extremely excited to see this at work... Perfect timing too, as I am headed off to Venice, to shoot a nice piece form which I'll pull lot's of frames... A.D.D. awaiting you with love... ;)

Received and installed my Rocket-X today and I am looking forward to using A.D.D. too!
Have a great weekend guys :-)

Venezia, Italia, correct? Carnivale, I trust. I can still taste those peach bell inis... As you know that celebration, puts participants on, what I call ET...Elvis Time-at least ten hours of life in each chronological hour...

Should be some really, really nice frames.

Thank you very much

What is this "REDLINE" you speak of? Something new?

REDLINE, or rather redline.exe, is an executable that allows you to essentially utilize many of the features of REDCINE-X Pro from the command line. It comes with every install of REDCINE-X Pro and can be found in the program directory.

I use REDLINE a bit when using my "Mini DITty" setup to quickly develop thumbnails and quicktimes, which I integrate into PDFs and web pages to send to clients. Think interactive contact sheets.

Command line REDCine. Also useful for network rendering on a farm.

You can also pull meta data out of an R3D using it.

Yup. REDLINE is one of those hidden gems that has been inside RCX forever.
