  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We are very proud... to the point where we have just let the sensor speak for itself . Those that understand Pixel design and how sensors work are completely blown away that we made such a dramatic improvement in the noise floor with more resolution with a smaller pixel, without noise reduction or software processing. It really is an incredible achievement not only for us camera geeks, but in the larger sensor community in general.

And it's not just the noise... I remember talking to Graeme early on when he was in the process of characterizing the Helium sensor.. and he was blown away by how accurate the color was even before he did his magic. So much good is going to come from this sensor down the road as we continue to fine tune it.
 
I can't put into words how excited I am, not just for the camera. But you guys have done a really good job making us feel like such a part of the process. And it's thrilling to see the plan coming together with the new body style.. Great job RED, you really pushed the outer limits this year.

Color Science is ready but wont go into the SDK / RCX for a few more weeks since everything is about to change... Helium Color is part of the entire Image Processing reboot that happens the end of the month / early November that goes into all the software.

Thanks for the explanation. Sitting here working, paying attn to low Reduser activity, wishing my Vols had pulled out yet another come from behind victory. SOOOO close. I'll have lunch with Coach Butch Jones on Wednesday. I hope to shoot him with the Epic-W sometime soon. And color accurate Tennessee Orange will be important. :thumbsup:

So incredibly happy to hear how proud you, Graeme, and the rest of the RED team are! Y'all deserve every piece of praise that comes your way on October 11th!!!

Cant wait to get my hands on this magical* sensor!!!

Insanity. And to think we were considering an Alexa Mini just a month ago. What a freakin mistake that woulda been!!!

What's a Epic - Weapon? I know of Weapon (8K VV & 6K S35) with its Dragon sensor, and of Epic with it's 6KS35 Dragon or MX sensor. There's Weapon with Helium sensor too, but what sensor is in this Epic - Weapon thing? Helium - Dragon or what? :biggrin5:

Sure Jarred, Helium will have better color, certainly along the way, and now is better in blacks than Dragon.
But I'm not so sure about the dynamic range, but be waiting the release. I love Weapon Dragon because I can associate with ALexa in highlights, the market is difficult at the moment! a nice roll-off is always something that makes the customer happy.
Well it would be another thing to have a sensor like DRagon have 1 stop in more in highlights maintaining cleanliness in blacks without d.e.b or a.d.d.
But maybe I'm asking too much ehheh and I'm delirious .. and Helium is ready for these features hehe


i love REd , and the best, but as we all want it to be always the best;)
It is only my personal opinion.


Jarred when the next Motion Mount that lose only 0.5 stops or lowest hehe?

The name is Epic-W. Helium sensor. Up to 30 FPS at 8K FF. Up to 75 FPS at 6K FF. Can record scaled ProRes to 4K.
