For those of you who don't have Tom on FB:

"So 16 stops of dynamic range might actually be an understatement from Red. This camera's dynamic range has officially been rated by me as "off the charts". It can see things no other camera can see."

These are exciting times!

While I found Mark's stress test a good way to show the DR of the camera...I would be interested in seeing some images graded to show the cinematic possibilities of the camera. If possible....

From another thread...

...

Ok...
In regarding wanting R3D's.
I cannot load up the R3D's as I have been instructed not to by RED. Why, because the camera I was using is an unfinished beta camera.

You wont be able to read the R3D's in any of your systems anyway unless you have the beta RCX. Which I cannot share with anyone as I have been instructed not to... why? because it does not have the desired colour science in it as yet and RED don't want to release a build that is still in test beta mode. As they have been burnt before with early releases.

You won't be able to grade the R3D's in any other program other than the beta RCX, So technically what i have shared with you already is currently all I can do from within RCX.

Until RED releases the SDK for Dragon to the world, we then wait until Resolve, base-light , Scratch, Auto desk, Apple colour, and Adobe Speed grade etc etc etc release an update to actually be able to play 6k R3D's.

Now... I promise you this, the moment RCX has been released by RED to the public, and then RED give me permission to upload my raw files. then I will.
But once again, don't hold your breath, because the current beta Dragon camera I used , does not have the latest colour science, does not have the desired IR filtration and does not have the up incoming low pass filter in it so I doubt RED actually want R3D's from this camera actually floating around being judged on, knowing that the images generated from it will be not as good as compared to the release models that we will all someday get.

So in fact... this test was more about depth and range of the new sensor, just to give everyone a taste of the up incoming latitude and DR... not color. As that's still work in progress. And I'm sure you will have plenty of material to grade and test once the finally finished camera is released.

I hope this all makes sense, because Im starting to feel and sound like a broken record.

Same limitations probably apply to Tom for the time being.

Is there any indoor scene with a bright window in the background posted yet?

TOm,
please slow motion in the night at 2000 iso, 6k 100fps and 2k 300fps I'm curious to see the difference of the current MX.:cornut:
+1 on that please. Thanks Tom.

I will try to post some images tomorrow. It's nearly 3am here.

One note: On Epic MX, I never really shoot over ISO 1000 in extreme low light. With Dragon it looks like that number will move to ISO 2500, or maybe ISO 3200.

The dynamic range is stunning.

i wait yoursssss imagessssssss :))))))):cornut:

I asked for that too, but I suspect that direct test of MX vs Dragon is not allowed just yet.
If so, I understand.

Hey Tom,
Thanks for the test. How about a challenge of seeing how many stops you can get from the sensor in one specific shot and also a side by side of the same shot with an MX exposed identically. Talking specs is one thing but seeing it is another. 16 stops is a lot, I think we all want a shot that easily shows 16 stops so the naysayers and critics can piss off (oh, and in TIFF format). Also, a night shot at 2000ISO of a skyline or such so we can see how clean it is. Thanks man!

Can I see some clean raw Close ups, Med shots and slow motion?

My bad Mark Otia shot some footage on another thread but it had the blur effects..I'll take whatever I know the stats of the Dragon but I need some side by side Epic & Dragon footage to see if I want to make another leap.

Can I see some clean raw footage with no blur effect etc. Close up, Med shot and slow motion? I've seen enough still shots from the dragon testers. Please I don't need people attacking me because I should be able to ask a question just like everyone else.

Jeez dude. There have only been 6 or so professionals in the field with the Dragon so far. They are testing it as camera people at this point, not as post techs. I just want to see what their thoughts are on these tests in reference to their shooting styles. They don't have time to do the side by sides and I don't want them to at this point. If you are wondering about the leap to Dragon, I recall that they said the upgrade process is going to last for some time, but not forever. I am sure they will tell us the cut off date when Dragon is officially released and most people are upgraded. You will have plenty of side by sides and whatnot after the release, so you can make an educated decision.

This is great to hear. I thought I would be able to hold for a while... I'm starting to second guess myself.
