  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon in Sri Lanka

Tom still has only shared a screen grab of an Elephant?

You've gotta have more than one shot of an elephant eye and a 1080p elephant in water. There's more BTS pics than screen grabs. Can you post anything else?

I get NDA's, but you promised some stuff...

Lotta us feel the same way. GL with everything Tom.

Since the entire nation of Sri-Lanka is not under wraps, and I'm sure you could find at least ten minutes to go just shoot whatever some evening, I'm sorry, but I personally find your reply massively lacking. You get a beta camera, you shoot some stuff (on the side, if need be) to show other users, that's the kinda deal, it would seem to me, and a tiny price to pay for having one the first 5 Dragons on planet earth. You schedule challenges are fine and all, but I would imagine Mark has some too.

'It's a dream" adds nothing specific to my technical knowledge of Dragon's capabilities, nor anyone else's.

I forgot that Tom got sick. He probably was all excited to share tons of material and then went down hard.

Forgive us Tom, our excitement is leading us to be demanding. Hope your in better health.
To back Tom here. When you're on a project sometimes you're under NDAs. Breaching that contract is not good for anybody. More over I've even had to wait years just to add material to my reel or website even after a project was released.

Tom had this prototype for a week and was able to capture some lovely imagery with it. Also, noteworthy here was he was rather sick during that time frame. He was able to share a few stills and it's likely we'll see the motion work "arise" in the future.

As much as everybody is eager to learn more about Dragon, patience must be demonstrated, there will be more cameras in the wild soon.

It's interesting watching people comment on things they know nothing about.

The sense of entitlement shown by certain people here is stunning.

I understand where you're coming from, but I wouldn't call it entitlement, these are your own words:

I will try to post screengrabs and thoughts in about 26 hours. I have a big day of shooting planned tomorrow.

We are gonna try to shoot a side-by-side test with Epic MX tonight. Just something to show the basic differences. There are no restrictions on me regarding what I can post.

I will try to post some images tomorrow. It's nearly 3am here.

I have the camera for one week, so feel free to ask specific things. No guarantees I can do them, because I am going full throttle on an actual shoot for my new film here here in Sri Lanka.

I will try to do a good side by side comparison with an MX Epic as soon as I can.

It's just a lot of us were really excited that you of all people would be posting samples. Your work stands out and it would have been awesome to see your images with Dragon. It's nothing personal, just a bit disappointing for a lot who haven't gotten to see Dragon up close yet.

Guys, give him a break. Here's what I think happened; Tom shot for a few days, then had to ship the negative to the lab, but in Sri Lanka it's difficult to get a carrier such as FedEx to ship his cans of film, so he had to hold onto the neg for a while until he traveled. Once he left Sri Lanka he sent the neg to the lab, they processed it, and are in the telecine process now but unbeknown to him the film got x-rayed in the airport and now it's unsuitable to show. An elephant image or two was spared in the process. Disappointed and ashamed, all that he can do now is sputter odd philosophical quotes. Like I said, give him a break, shooting film ain't easy as pointing and shooting a digital camera. Errrr...

This is not directed at you, Matt, but the aura of entitlement that Tom notes shocks me too, and I am just a distant bystander with nearly no skin in the game.

This guy doesn't deserve a break, because he had no commitment to begin with. Sure, he had some personal goals that didn't come to fruition, so what. That happens all the time. What he deserves is respect for being a normal human being, and he deserves respect for being a person who got some pre-release technology to play with and give feedback on. (more respect for the former, from me.) If he doesn't post side-by-side 24 bit TIFFs, did he do something wrong? No, of course not. WTF.

Hi.

I think he is also busy with Flex 4k camera ....:nonod:

I don't know - Tom got a beta camera, and didn't deliver what he promised to do with it in exchange for access. We are disappointed. He can act self-righteous all he wants, but all we're doing is complaining on a forum, and it's kind of normal.

If I were him I would be apologetic rather than rude and arrogant about it, but he and I are from very different cultural backgrounds.

Let's just hope he doesn't delete my account again for saying this - he has done that before when he didn't like my attitude - so maybe I should live in constant fear of displeasing him and just say "AWESOME SINGLE ELEPHANT PIC!!!!! GO TOM!!!!! RED RULZ!!!!!"

I wouldn't worry, if he doesn't have time to post some tests on RU he probably doesn't have time to carry out his moderator duties...

We had high hopes, let's leave it at that.
