Hello,

Our order of the Dragon (Scarlet to Epic Dragon) goes back several weeks and now we get no news on the preparation steps. I said that we are located in Europe (France).
My contact was not any info and I do not blame him! But like most of you, our future production or being dependent on the camera ...
Red fluent communication towards its customers.
The success of the Dragon seems obvious and so I imagine that there is "the world behind the door" ... Serve everyone takes time, it is clear. But everyone can not afford to place an order staying ad vitam no idea of time, and hope to get an estimate ...
I do not want privilege, just ... just information.
This investment is huge for our small company, I think the request is legitimate, right?
One thing that reassures me is that RED is not Blackmagic! ...
If someone to reassure us, do not hesitate!
(Apologies for my very Approximate English text!)

Hi Christophe,
as you should know, nobody has received Epic dragon yet, apart a few beta cameras in the wild.
I'm afraid you will have to be very patient for the delivery.
Epic M owner will be the first served if I understood well.
If your production depend on a tool who's not in the market yet, maybe it is more safe to rent another camera.
Best
B.

Don't expect your dragon to arrive before 2014. I have the feeling they're having production problems.

Hello Brice,
Thank you for your answer.
There are some days, I asked my contact if I could change my order and therefore limit myself to a Epic MX ... and I understand that it would be difficult ... apparently, this is not possible, too late .

(Once you complete your TRADE-IN SCARLET order, your SCARLET Will Be marked as "EXECUTED" and Will Remain Executed even if you cancel your order SCARLET TRADE-IN. Executed serial numbers cannot be used on any future TRADE-INs Credit gold. )
What do you understand by that?
What is certain is that I can not wait beyond October.

Christophe

Can not wait for 2014!
That's unfortunate!
I'm not afiliated to Red, but I think it is safe to say their is no chance you will be serve in october.
Why not using your Scarlet then? It is as good as an Epic MX.
And if you need some slowmotion stuff rent an Epic for the day.
You can find good renting deal in Paris (The other day I saw an Epic kit ready to shoot under 400 a day)
Good luck.
B.

Having said that, you should be able at least to trade in your Scarlet against an Epic Mx (9500$?) and then resend later your Epic Mx for the dragon upgrade (+9500$).
Hope that help.
Best
B.

Brice,
This is exactly what I want to do.
And interrogating my bomb squad contact, I got this:

Once you complete your TRADE-IN SCARLET order, your SCARLET Will Be marked as "EXECUTED" and Will Remain Executed even if you cancel your TRADE-IN SCARLET order. Executed serial numbers cannot be used on any future TRADE-INs Credit gold.
Basically meaning you can not change back down to Reviews another trade in offer.

However, the Scarlet is still in my hands, nothing is set in stone ...
I hope to have an answer today or tomorrow.

Christophe

Unless I miss my mark, there have been 7 Dragons out to DP's that we know of: Mark Toia, Tom Lowe, Evin Grant, Gunliek (I can't remember his last name), the Diamond Bros, Petter Collister and Ketch Rossi. Chances are there might be more, either I didn't catch their post, or they're not making it public. Either way, all those names are top of the heap RED users. Lifers, if you will, that have been heavily involved in the RED universe from day one. There are also others out on the multi-million dollar budget productions, like Transformers and Gone Girl, and then obviously the two Carbons on Game of Thrones, and the one that they had at the Surface 2 unveil thing. So when they say trickle, it is indeed a trickle. Maybe one Dragon gets shipped per week, on a good week. I respectfully disagree with Milano. With cameras, unless you're Sony, a new sensor takes a long time to get done and ready to go. Could be that these REDusers they've sent the camera to are giving them feedback and they're making tweaks before shipping. Then the Epic-M owners will get their upgrades first. Then Epic-X, then Scarlet, then Scarlet to Scarlet Dragon, then the non-upgraders. So Christophe, I wouldn't expect your Dragon until at least Christmas, and that's pushing it. Shoot your feature with the Scarlet, or postpone until you get a definite delivery date for the Dragon.

As I said Brice, I just submitted my usual Bomb Squad canceling my order to go from the Scarlet Epic Dragon, to be replaced by the current MX Epic.
But I'm not sure I understood the message that it is now too late, knowing that I still have in my possession my Scarlet.
And in 2014, I will replace my Epic for a Dragon.
I await their response.
Christophe

Just to be clear all new Dragon M's have the machined body? Only a new Dragon M or Upgraded Epic M are classified as Dragon-M?

An EPIC X that goes through an upgrade is then called a DRAGON X...not a DRAGON M?

Red will process all the Dragon-M orders before starting on Dragon-X orders, and then proceed to Dragon-Scarlets last. If red can upgrade 100 cameras per day, that's only 2k per month, so it would take several months to upgrade all the M and then several more to process the X orders.

And several of those Dragon recipients you mention were privy to seeing pre-production units and actually don't have their own yet!!! EPIC-M customers get the Dragon upgrade first and RED is trying to ramp up sensor and component production to get the ball rolling on those upgrades. While I wasn't the first to receive an EPIC-M, I don't think I'm terribly far down the list and I haven't received an upgrade notice yet. I keep hoping for it every day.... :)

I'm assuming we haven't been given an update in the past few weeks about progress because there isn't much to report. October, that means today, is when production is supposed to actually start ramping up, so I guess we can hope that is happening. Trying to subscribe to the no news is good news philosophy.

Correct. EPIC-M with machined body becomes Dragon-M. EPIC-X becomes DRAGON-X.

is Epic Dragon upgrade also by time stamp regardless of which camera you're upgrading from?

I was wondering that too. I have an Epic-M, but waited about a month before I put in a pre-order. While I would be thrilled to learn that I am earlier in line simply for having an M, I would also feel bad for the Epic-X owners who put in a pre-order before me (I guess... if I have to ;-)

EPIC-M cameras are being upgraded now, slowly, and will hopefully ramp up soon. RED is starting with them first and working through the queue based on when your M was shipped. They will start EPIC-X upgrades when ready and I'm presuming that most of the EPIC-M customers will be notified of their upgrade by the time the EPIC-X program starts.

The M orders go first, then early adopter X, then X, then Scarlet.

M dragon orders, or M upgrade orders?

Hoping for the later, as thats what I got.... but I think the people that order new M's with dragon will get them first. Kind of the same as when the red one ugrade to epic program started. or?

I want that dragon so bad I could cry. Feel like a little kid. :)
